Our Foundation learners had a busy and reflective week in honour of ANZAC Day. A highlight was reading ANZAC Biscuits and then heading to the kitchen to bake some ourselves! We used descriptive language to describe how the biscuits looked, smelled, and tasted. We also practised our fine motor and listening skills by creating some wonderful ANZAC Ted drawings.

Every day, our students are building their reading confidence by practising decoding fluency. They are working hard on segmenting and blending individual sounds to read words with accuracy. To bridge the gap between reading and writing, we’ve also been using sound boxes. This helps the Foundation students identify each sound in a CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) word before matching it to the correct letter.

This week, students practised partitioning numbers to 10. During the 'Shake and Spill' activity, students used coloured counters to visually split a whole number into two distinct parts. This hands-on experience helps students recognise number patterns and reinforces their ability to identify parts and write the corresponding numerals.

In Inquiry, we’ve been learning that some places hold deep meaning for different people. We looked at Uluru and its importance to Aboriginal people, then reflected on our own favourite spots like the park, the beach, or the pool.
It was wonderful to hear the Foundation students describe their special places and explain why they matter. They did a fantastic job practising their listening and questioning skills during peer presentations. Every student walked away feeling brave and proud of their effort! A big thank you to our families for supporting the students with their photos and stories.
Kind Regards,
