Welcome back to Term 2!

What's happening this term?

Term 2 is shaping up as being extremely busy with lots to learning and fun to be had.

Literacy

This term, we are diving into the whimsical world of Roald Dahl’s Matilda for our novel study. This beloved book will be the heartbeat of our Literacy sessions, providing a rich context for our work in:

  • Vocabulary & Spelling: Exploring Dahl’s unique word choices and expanding our own "word banks."

  • Grammar & Sentence Structure: Using examples from the text to strengthen our sentence-level writing.

  • Narrative Writing: We will be further developing our narrative skills, focusing on character development and engaging plotlines inspired by the themes in the book.

The students are already showing great enthusiasm for Matilda’s adventures, and I look forward to seeing how their own writing grows as we explore this classic story together.

Maths

Year 3 units of focus:

Fractions, Length, Pattern, Data Representation, Addition and Subtraction

Year 4 units of focus:

Multiplication and Division, Decimals, Length and Area, 2D Shape, and Data Representation

Inquiry

Our unit this term is called Our Island Home. Students will improve their questioning, research, and mapping skills as they learn more about Australia and our island neighbours. They will investigate climate zones, food chains, biomes, and different rock formations. Students will consider the symbols, values, and identities of different island nations. This unit culminates in the collaborative planning, modelling, and mapping of a new island.

Education in Faith

To begin the term, we will celebrate the risen Jesus and explore the Easter stories of the Road to Emmaus and Breakfast by the Lake. These stories provide a beautiful foundation for our reflections on faith and community as we move into the new term.

This term is a particularly special time as some of our students prepare to celebrate the Sacrament of First Holy Communion.

  • When: Sunday, June 21st at 10:30am

  • Where: St Francis Xavier Church

In class, our learning will focus on the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation). This will help all students understand the journey of faith and the significance of these milestones within the Church community.

Year 3/4 Camp

Our Year 3/4 camp will take place on the final two days of Term 2: Thursday, June 25th and Friday, June 26th. We are headed to Camp Manyung in Mt Eliza, and excitement is already building! Information will begin coming home shortly regarding the activity schedule and a comprehensive packing list.

In the meantime, if you'd like to explore the site and see where the students will be staying, you can find out more at: https://camps.ymca.org.au/camp-manyung
