We are looking forward to a busy and exciting term ahead. A major highlight will be Camp Rumbug next week, where students will have the opportunity to challenge themselves and build independence while having a whole bunch of fun! In the classroom, we will be exploring The Last Bear, with a focus on persuasive language and writing, alongside our inquiry unit on Our Asian Neighbours. In Religious Education, students will continue learning about their relationship with God through our Faiths of the World unit. We will finish the term by sharing our learning at our Travel Expo showcase, a wonderful opportunity for students to celebrate their work. We've hit the ground running, and we're well underway already!
In Geography, students have begun exploring our Asian neighbours, developing their understanding of countries, cultures, and locations within our region. Recently, students have been using flags of the world to identify and locate Asian countries on a map, building their confidence with geographic knowledge in a fun and engaging way. This unit will continue to support our inquiry learning as we prepare for our end-of-termTravel Exposhowcase.

In English, students have begun our text study of The Last Bear, building on the strong reading and discussion skills developed during our War Horse unit last term. Through this novel, students are exploring key themes, developing their comprehension, and strengthening their ability to respond thoughtfully to texts. A particular focus will be on persuasive language, as students begin to draft and write persuasive letters based around polar bear conservation.

Our Grade 5 students recently enjoyed a Transition Visit to JPC, where they had the opportunity to experience a taste of secondary school life. Students took part in hands-on activities including cooking pizza muffins and engaging science demonstrations such as creating elephant toothpaste, producing gas flames, inflating balloons, and mixing chemicals. It was a fantastic experience that sparked curiosity and excitement, and helped students begin to feel more confident about their transition to secondary school.

A number of our students recently represented the school at the Bayside District Track Athletics event, demonstrating great effort, sportsmanship, and determination throughout the day. It was wonderful to see students challenge themselves, support one another, and take pride in their achievements. We are very proud of all who participated and represented our school so positively.
Yesterday, students took part in our whole school Science Week rotations, exploring the theme Seeds of Science. Working in House groups, students engaged in a range of hands-on activities including making seed bombs, creating helicopter seeds, designing cress heads, and exploring sensory seed experiences. It was a fantastic day of curiosity, creativity, and collaboration, with students fully immersed in learning through doing.

We have so many incredible things to look forward to in the Grade 5/6 space this term that I thought I would add them here each fortnight to help you keep track!
