Just Start It Gala

In the Year 10 Business Bites classes, students participate in an endorsed program through ‘Just Start It’.  It teaches students to create their own startup to solve a ‘world’ problem.  At the conclusion of the program, students pitch to their class and the Director of ‘Just Start It’ vying for a place in the ‘Just Start It’ Gala where the students compete with other schools for funding and support to take their concepts to market. 

This year, we had one team, “Plate it Forward” (Nabi Kebede and Suhbah Haidary), make it to the finals. They were tasked to take their business concept through the next stages and seek industry assistance. They hit the pavement canvassing businesses at Westfield Carousel, CEWA and the City of Gosnells. The students then had the opportunity to pitch their idea to a panel of Judges at the Gala. This year the Judges included Members from the City of Canning, Joondalup, Stirling and South Perth as well as Joel Wynhorst, David Williams from Perth Glory and Mark Arena - Cyber Security Entrepreneur and Owner of the Wildcats.

The students presented to an auditorium of people.  I am proud to announce that the students placed third in this competition behind Sacred Heart College and Iona. They received some funding and further support to take their business to market should they wish to proceed.  Well done girls!
