Year 5/6

I can't believe we are almost at the end of the longest term of the year and already halfway through the school year. Time certainly flies when you're having fun! Our classroom has been its usual busy and bustling self over the past two weeks, with students working hard to complete tasks and projects across all learning areas.
We have also welcomed a couple of important visitors recently. Mrs Wailes visited our classroom to catch up on all the wonderful learning that has been taking place, and staff from Tumbarumba High School met with our Year 6 students to talk about all things high school, including the upcoming transition days.
The children have worked incredibly hard throughout the term, and I am very proud of their efforts. I wish all of our families a wonderful, relaxing holiday and hope you enjoy some quality time together.
Maths – We have been learning about geometric measurement, exploring different ways to measure lengths and distances before moving on to measuring and constructing angles. Throughout this unit, students have developed their estimation skills by predicting measurements before using appropriate measuring tools to check their answers. They have also practised drawing tables to accurately record their estimations and results, and have become increasingly confident using a protractor to measure, draw and identify different types of angles.

English – Over the past two weeks, we have been putting the finishing touches on our Information Reports about Poland. Students have followed a structured writing proforma, which has scaffolded the writing process and supported every student to achieve success. They researched and gathered information, organised their ideas, wrote an introduction, three body paragraphs and a conclusion, before typing and submitting their drafts for feedback. The children have shown great perseverance throughout this process, and I have been thoroughly impressed with the quality of their finished reports.
