3/4 CLASSROOM

Over the past few weeks, the Grade 3/4 students have continued working hard across all learning areas.
In Reading and Writing, students have been enjoying reading our class novel, Uncle Xbox. We have been exploring new vocabulary from the text, including words such as bother, gliding, and blaring. Students have also been developing their sentence writing skills by learning about different sentence types, adverbs, and subordinating conjunctions. In Writing, students have begun writing factual recounts based on their learning about Australia’s colonisation and the impact this had on First Nations communities. In Spelling, students have been learning about the /u/ and /oo/ long vowel sounds. Ask your child about the “Juicy Fruit Family” and the “Soup Group”!
In Math's, students recently completed their unit on fractions. Throughout the unit, students explored converting fractions, adding fractions and ordering fractions on a number line. We finished the topic with a fun hands-on activity using Skittles to represent fractions. Students are now looking forward to beginning our next unit on length and area.
In RE, students completed their Circle of Life unit. Students selected lines from Ecclesiastes 3:1–8 and created drawings showing two moments that represented the meaning of their chosen Scripture passage.
In Inquiry, students have been learning about different cycles within ecosystems and exploring why ecosystems need balance in order to survive. We have also discussed the importance of water within habitats and how living things rely on it.
In Art, students created paper mache snakes by first shaping the body structure and then carefully adding coloured tissue paper. Students enjoyed experimenting with colour and texture, and in the coming weeks they will continue adding details to complete their artworks.
