Term 3

100 days of School 

100 days of school is occurring on Wednesday 29th July. Students are to wear BRIGHT colours, or anything fun and sparkly to celebrate! Parents are welcome to come into the classroom for the first 10 minutes to get photos. Please be mindful when taking pictures of someone else's child. As it is a celebration your child is welcome to bring in some 'party' food to share as well as their normal lunch. Please see compass post that was sent out last week for more details. We are looking forward to celebrating how far the students have come. 

Literacy

In Core Literacy, students have been introduced to the magic ‘e’ rule, learning that a silent ‘e’ can make the vowel before it say its name. They have practised reading and spelling words containing ‘a_e’, such as cake, make, shade and wave, and ‘e_e’, as in Steve and theme. Students also reviewed the ‘dge’ spelling pattern, the ‘ng’ sound and heart words including my, they, said and there. 

In Writing, students have explored how authors use repeated text structures to organise their ideas. Using texts by Alison Lester as inspiration, students created sentences about familiar topics such as breakfast, play, pets and shopping. They also expanded simple sentences by adding information about who, what, when and where, helping to make their writing more detailed and engaging. Throughout each session, students continued to practise using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces, as well as rereading their work to ensure it made sense.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, students have developed their understanding across number, data and problem-solving. They surveyed their classmates, recorded information using tally marks and represented their findings in simple graphs, identifying the most and least popular responses. Students also practised writing teen numbers, subitising, counting by tens and finding one more or one less. Through practical games and hands-on materials, they explored subtraction, doubles and different ways to represent solutions using counters, drawings, number sentences and part-part-whole knowledge.
