We have hit the ground running in the art room for term 3. The year 4's are participating in the Wild at Art competition and are learning about a chosen endangered Australian animal. The year 5 and 6B have been working on the Lions Club, Harmony in Humanity Peace Poster. The concepts that are being developed are extremely impressive from each group. 

Just a shout out to any student wishing to apply for Art Academy ant Sandringham College, The applications close August 3. If you are applying, please make sure you have a letter of recommendation from myself or Ms Van Etten and you need a portfolio (not just your school one) with images in different mediums. For example, a painting, some drawings in pencil, charcoal and pastel, graphic marker work and even sculptures. The more your child can provide the better their chances.

I will be ensuring all of my recommendation letters are returned by email by early next week, so if you need one email me by Monday 27th Please.

I would love some of my talented year six students to get one of these converted spots

Mandarin

Welcome back to Term 3! It has been wonderful to welcome students back to Mandarin classes, and we are looking forward to another exciting term of language learning.

In addition to our regular Mandarin curriculum, we have introduced a new "Chinese Culture of the Week" segment. Each week, students spend a few minutes learning about a different aspect of Chinese culture, including traditional foods, festivals, customs, and places of interest. This is a fun way to complement our language learning and help students develop a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.

Over the past two weeks, students have explored tanghulu (candied fruit) and xiaolongbao (soup dumplings). It has been wonderful to hear that some students have asked to try these foods at home, and even made them with their families. Seeing students continue their learning beyond the classroom and share their curiosity with their families has been incredibly rewarding.

We look forward to introducing many more aspects of Chinese culture throughout the term while continuing to build students' confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing Mandarin.

Physical Education 

Level F- 2 

Students in F–2 have started Term 3 with great enthusiasm, developing their fundamental movement skills such as throwing, catching, hopping, skipping and jumping. Through a variety of fun and engaging games, including Monster Ball, Hula Hoop Rock, Paper, Scissors and Pokémon Go, students have been practising these skills while building confidence, coordination and teamwork. It has been fantastic to see everyone participating with such positive attitudes and encouraging one another throughout each lesson.

Level 3 & 4 

Students in Levels 3 & 4 have been developing their athletics skills. Throughout Term 2 and 3, they have been practising a range of events including shot put, hurdles, sprinting, triple jump, long jump and high jump. It has been wonderful to see students challenging themselves, refining their techniques and encouraging their classmates as they strive to achieve their personal best.

 Level 5 and 6

Students in Levels 5 & 6 have been developing their athletics skills in preparation for the upcoming Athletics Carnival. Throughout Term 2 and 3, they have been practising a range of events including shot put, hurdles, sprinting, triple jump, long jump and high jump. It has been wonderful to see students challenging themselves, refining their techniques and encouraging their classmates as they strive to achieve their personal best.

Science

Foundation

Our little scientists are studying the movement. During week 1 they investigated the various ways that people move. Then have then studied the movement of animals.

Level 1 & 2

Our young scientists are learning about the unique features of animals that enable them to survive in their environment. During week 1 we studied the amazing Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary. It is wonderful to hear that many families have visited the sanctuary and looked in the rock pools. This week we have studied the unique features of cuttlefish, including the fin used to swim and their unbelievable camouflage skills.

It is wonderful to see the students continuing to think about ways to protect our environment.

Level 3 & 4

Level 3 and 4 have commenced our new Geology unit. During week 1 they participated in an exhibition of rocks, minerals, sand, soil and concrete. They classified the exhibits as rock or non-rock. During week 2 they have explored the school grounds on a Rock Hunt.

Level 5 & 6

Our senior scientists have started a Chemistry unit. During weeks 1 and 2 they have learnt about the origins and organisation of the Periodic Table. They are also learning  how each element is used.
