Appointment

Mark Beck is the new senior coach of the St Virgil’s Old Scholar Football Club. Mark is an Old Virgilian (SVC 1995-98) and a former staff member at St Virgil’s School Senior Campus (2011-22). Mark is currently on the staff at the city campus of Guilford Young College.

During his time at the College, Mark coached the senior football teams to six Hawks Cups – the state-wide competition for secondary students up to Year 10. The Hawks Cup was initiated in 2008 and SVC was victorious in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2021 (no event in 2020).

Mark has been a senior coach at the Hobart Football Club and an assistant at the North Hobart Club. He is a playing life member of SVCOSFC and a life member of Hobart FC. Mark aims to continue the wonderful culture developed over recent years at the Saints as well as bring in as many young Old Virgilians as possible. How the club has turned around since the end of 2020!                                  

In the three years prior to 2021, the senior team had collected five consecutive wooden spoons, a decade long finals drought and 20 years since senior premiership success.

In the four seasons 2021-2024, the club has won one premiership, lost narrowly in another, and made preliminary finals in the other two.
