Tasmanian STEM

At the 9th Annual Tasmanian STEM  (Science, Engineering, Technology, Mathematics) awards, Dr Ben Arthur (svc 1999-2002) was one of the major recipients. The Tasmanian government recognised Tasmanians who have excelled in STEM to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers with a total prize pool of $35,000 across six categories.

Ben is a marine ecologist and science communicator who has worked in the marine sciences for 15 years. He completed his PhD in animal movement ecology at the University of Tasmania and has led field research programs in Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic, including Macquarie Island, with the Australian, French and South African national Antarctic programs. Ben has circumnavigated the Australian continent on research vessels. Ben is a passionate communicator of science and its importance to our everyday lives. He currently coordinates engagement programs for the CSIRO Marine National Facility on board RV Investigator leading a range of marine engagement and education programs and activities.
