From the President

Dear Old Virgilians

On behalf of the OVA committee, I would like to extend our very best wishes for the festive season to all students and their families as the academic year comes to a close in 2024. This year will be fondly remembered by current and past students as the first year of the return of Kindergarten to Year 12 for St Virgil’s College.

The efforts of the students will be reflected in not just their academic results but also as community leaders and positive contributions to the broader community. We are rightly proud of your efforts and contributions.

I hope you all enjoy a safe and relaxing break after a busy year and come back refreshed and looking forward to the next stage of either academic or career pursuits. For those students and families continuing at the College, we look forward to an exciting year ahead.

OVA Membership

All past students and current OVA members will soon receive communication from the OVA committee about the future strategic vision of OVA. This is based on the consultations that have occurred over the last few years. This is a genuine opportunity for your committee to be informed about the commitment to the ongoing future of OVA.  Without active member participation and a sincere willingness to support the vision of OVA into the future, the committee will need to critically assess the long-term viability of the OVA.

This will necessitate a call to action for current members, lapsed members and those that may not yet have become members and would like to do so. Your committee will quickly learn of the ongoing viability of the OVA based on the level of response. I can only encourage members and past students to respond indicating their willingness to support the OVA and its strategic vision into the future.

Austins Ferry Land Sale

You will note in this addition that some of the land at Austins Ferry is now for sale. This is an example of where OVA’s broad membership could otherwise be actively involved in exploring options to result in an improved outcome for such property. OVA was not informed of the proposed sale and has not considered the options that may have been available.

Annual Golf Day

It is pleasing to see former Treasurer Michael Harvey win this event. He has also been the organiser of the event for many years. It was a well-organised and successful occasion for OVA members. There have been several “Trump-like” comparisons made around the OVA circle. We will not be pursuing any recount and leave it at that!
