Dear Families,

As we come to the end of another wonderful and busy term, we are incredibly proud of the growth and progress we have seen in our Year 1 students. It has been a joy to watch many students become more responsible, respectful and kind, showing greater compassion and care towards others each day.

Throughout the term, we have often spoken about how we can live by the lessons Jesus taught us. It has been especially wonderful to see our students putting these teachings into action in their everyday lives. The message of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:25–37 reminds us to show kindness, care and mercy to others when they are in need, and these values are regularly demonstrated by our Year 1 students. Whether it is helping a fallen classmate, finding a trusted adult for support, walking alongside a friend to sick bay, or even giving up some precious playtime to make sure a friend is okay, these small but meaningful acts show the generous and caring hearts of our students.

We are so proud of the kindness, compassion and friendship that we see throughout our Year 1 community. These moments may seem small, but they are wonderful reminders that our students are not only growing academically, but also growing into thoughtful, caring and compassionate young people. What a wonderful achievement to celebrate as we come to the end of another successful term!

Next  term :

Religious Education: Next term we will be looking at celebrations of Advent, World Mission day and exploring more about the importance of Christmas.

Writing:  Next term we will continue to read more animal information texts and write responses. We will also be looking at procedural writing.

Reading: Next term we will will be learning some more vowel sounds and some sounds with silent letters before revising all of our 7.4 sounds. 

Mathematics:  Next term students will continue to examine measurement as well as learn how to double, double a number, halving a number as well as place value, addition and subtraction and explore the concept of locations.

Integrated Curriculum: Students will continue to learn about music, dance and drama.

Auslan:  Students will learn more about Unit 7 and 8 which includes colours and animals.

What you can do at home

• Listen to your child read regularly and encourage them to use their decoding strategies when they come to an unfamiliar word.

• After reading, ask your child to retell what happened, share their favourite part, or explain how a character was feeling.

• Re-reading familiar texts is a great way to build confidence, fluency and expression.

• Notice numbers in everyday places and ask questions like, “What do they know?”, “How do you know?” or "Are you sure?"

• A curious question to ask this week could be: What do you notice about the world around you?

Important Classroom Reminders:

• Fidget Toys

  We kindly ask that students do not bring fidget toys to school unless their use is a planned adjustment in consultation with Allied Health Professionals. 

  Students who bring fidget toys without an approved adjustment will be asked to place them in their school bag for the remainder of the day to take home. 

  We appreciate your support in encouraging your child to leave fidget toys at home.

• Spare clothes/change of clothes

  Please pack spare clothes with a pair of socks and underwear to be placed in the front zip pocket of your child's school bag in case of a toileting accident or i they get muddy during recess and play time. 

• Please ensure that you are labelling all your child's belongings.
