Foundation - Year 2 Recap

It has been a wonderful and energetic month in Physical Education! Over the past few weeks, our Foundation to Year 2 students have been busy developing not only their physical capabilities but also their social and emotional skills through movement.

Here is a snapshot of what we have been focusing on:

  • Managing Emotions in Sport: We have been exploring big feelings on the sports field. Students are learning healthy strategies to handle frustration when things don't go their way, celebrate success respectfully, and bounce back after making a mistake.
  • Fair Play & Sportsmanship: Being a great teammate is just as important as scoring a goal! Our classes have focused heavily on honesty, following the rules, encouraging peers, and learning how to win and lose graciously.
  • Introduction to Basketball Skills: The basketball courts have been a hive of activity as students dive into foundational basketball mechanics. We have been practicing correct hand placement, control, stationary and moving dribbling, and beginner chest passes.
  • Inclusive Team Games: We have put our new skills and values into practice through cooperative team games. These activities are designed to maximize participation, foster inclusion, and give every student a chance to shine while working together toward a common goal.

It’s been fantastic to see such positive attitudes, resilience, and teamwork across all year levels.

Year 5 & 6 Recap

It has been a high-energy and action-packed month for our Year 5 and 6 students, with fantastic engagement across both our racquet and court sports!

Here is a look at what our senior students have been achieving in PE:

  • Hot Shots Tennis Wrap-Up: Students recently wrapped up their dynamic tennis unit, showing brilliant progression. They learnt fundamental techniques including forehand and backhand striking, proper grip, and footwork, culminating in some impressive cooperative rallies.
  • Basketball Skills & Fundamentals: We have seamlessly transitioned into our always popular basketball unit. Students are sharpening their technique across a range of core skills, including ball-handling and control, shooting form, layup mechanics, and tight defensive pressure.
  • Tactical Awareness & Space: Beyond individual skills, students are learning how to read the court, working hard to cut, pass, and move into open space to create scoring opportunities for their team.
  • Fair Play & Leadership: As our games become faster and more competitive, our Year 5 and 6 students continue to set a wonderful leadership example by prioritizing sportsmanship, respecting referee calls, and supporting their peers on and off the court.

It has been fantastic to see their teamwork, resilience, and competitive spirit shine. Well done to all of our senior students!

District and Division Sports update

Our upper primary students have been exceptional ambassadors for our school lately, showing fantastic talent, dedication, and sportsmanship across a wide range of representative and interschool sports.

Here is a celebration of our students' recent achievements:

  • Athletics Success (Years 4–6): Students across Years 4 to 6 put in massive efforts representing our school at both the district and division levels of athletics. A huge congratulations to our standout competitors, with four students progressing all the way through to the regional finals which will take place in term 4!
  • Year 6 Interschool Team Sports: Our Year 6 cohort has been exceptionally busy representing the school across an extensive lineup of sports, including Cricket, Basketball, Softball, Volleyball, and Tennis. Every team played with terrific school pride and resilience.
  • Looking Ahead to Division Finals: A special shout-out to our Girls Cricket team and Girls Basketball team, who both progress through to the division finals next term!

We are immensely proud of the way all our student representatives support one another, display fair play, and wear our school colors with distinction. Best of luck to our athletics, cricket and basketball teams in the upcoming finals!
