PBL Roch Stars!  - Positive Behaviour Learning 

On Tuesday during  'Tune in Tuesday' our PBL leaders, Grace Colliver, Olivia Nolan, Matilda Stubbs and Conner Zervas selected the newest RRRoch Stars. The three students selected have displayed one of our expected behaviours and were acknowledged for their efforts to build a positive school for all.  They will enjoy a special 'PBL lunch with the Principal' at the end of the term! We thank our teachers for recognising this positive behaviour 

We would like to congratulate Wally Bristow from Year 5 for showing the expected behaviour of Respect.  

We would like to congratulate Chloe Ireland from Year 2 for showing the expected behaviour of Responsibility.  

We would like to congratulate Hunter Buckthought from Year 3 for showing the expected behaviour of Resilience.

Each week our school follows a PBL Weekly Focus. The focus for Week 8 and Week 8 of Term 3 will be Making Positive Choices and Showing Kindness, Empathy and Gratitude. At school,  when we make positive choices for ourselves and others, we help everyone stay safe, happy, and ready to learn. 

When we show kindness we perform thoughtful actions that are helpful, generous, or compassionate towards others. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person, stepping into their shoes to see things from their perspective. To show gratitude is to express thanks and appreciation for something good that has happened, an act of kindness received, or the feeling of being thankful for all the goods things your have in your life. 

The weekly PBL focus aims to keep our PBL framework on the agenda across the school to ensure consistent practices from Prep - Year 6 are in place.  It also keeps the excitement of Gotcha Tickets, Class Rewards and Whole School Rewards alive! 

We encourage discussions with our students around the expected behaviour for the week and endeavour to 'catch' the students who are following the expected behaviours by giving them the Gotcha Tickets when an expected behaviour is displayed.

SRC Leaders in Action 

The Semester 2 SRC leaders have met over the past three weeks and worked together to keep improving our wonderful school community. They participated with enthusiasm in games to  get to know each each other and have contributed ideas for our upcoming R U OK? Day. On Wednesday they joined a Circle to explore our Term 3 school Value 'Equity & Justice'. We look forward to them leading this Circle in their classrooms next week. What an outstanding group of students who are so willing to support the younger students in all activities. 

Child Safe Standards #4, #5, #6 and #7 

At St Roch's, we are committed to Child Safety. As a MACS school we will be developing our staffs professional understanding of the "11 standards in 11 months." This will ensure that all staff are well informed of the Child Safety Standards. 

At our recent School Closure Day, as a staff we focused on Child Safe Standard #4, #5, #6 and #7. The focus of Child Safe Standard 3 is  ensuring that children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously. During professional learning, we reflected on ways that we already uphold this standard in our school, as well as brainstorming ways we can do more to embed this in our practice.

The parent newsletter series provides an overview of what the Child Safe Standards are, how they are designed to help keep children and young people safe and what schools governed by Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) are doing to prioritise and achieve this.

Our Child Safety Officer

As part of our ongoing commitment to Child Safety and fostering a supportive environment, our students are regularly reminded about the importance of identifying and accessing their five trusted adults within the school community.

We are taking a specific step to reinforce this critical message. Your children will be formally introduced to our dedicated Child Safety Officer, Nadine Bolton, who is already a very familiar and trusted face to them.

Nadine serves as a vital safe person for your child. We encourage students to speak to Nadine should they need any support, have a concern, or require someone safe to talk to while at school.

We believe that by clearly designating roles and providing readily available support, we empower our students to feel safe and confident every day.

Key Changes to Access Procedures

To enhance our security measures and ensure we remain fully Child Safety Compliant during school hours, we have implemented important changes to our gate procedures.

To maintain a secure school environment, the following changes are now in effect:

• Perimeter Gates (Glenvale and Valency Roads) will be locked from 9:15 am until 3:00 pm.
• The only entry point during these hours will be via the Reception Gate on Glenvale Road.
• Should you need to enter the school between 9:15 am and 3:00 pm, please use the Reception Gate.

Security Note

Please be reminded that, as per safety regulations, CCTV cameras are in operation across the school grounds to monitor activity and ensure the safety of our students and staff.
