St Roch's Reading Challenge Update

Our St Roch’s Reading Challenge is going from strength to strength. We have now read an incredible 1,908 books, with still two and a half weeks to go!

Year 2 and Year 3 are currently leading the class competition, but there is still plenty of time for the other classes to catch up!

A huge thank you to our students, teachers and families for inspiring and supporting our love of reading. Keep those pages turning and remember to register every book — every book counts!

Prime Minister's Spelling Bee Update

A huge congratulations to the following students who have progressed to the next round of the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee:

Henry McCann – Year 4
Zoe Nguyen – Year 4
Christopher Ivancic – Year 3

The students will complete Round 2 this week and we wish them the very best of luck! We are incredibly proud of their hard work and achievement. Well done, Henry, Zoe and Christopher!

Children's Book Council of Australia – Book Week

Throughout the term, classes have been reading and enjoying books shortlisted for the 2026 Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Awards.

This year's Book Week theme, "Symphony of Stories," celebrates the way stories come together to inspire, entertain and connect us. Students have been exploring a wonderful range of Australian literature through read-alouds, classroom discussions and literacy activities inspired by the shortlisted books.

These beautiful stories encourage imagination, creativity, empathy and a lifelong appreciation of reading.

2026 CBCA Book of the Year Awards

We are excited to celebrate the winners of the 2026 CBCA Book of the Year Awards, announced on Friday 21 August.

A huge congratulations to all the winning and shortlisted authors, illustrators and publishers whose creativity and imagination continue to bring wonderful Australian stories to life.

The CBCA Book of the Year Awards are a wonderful opportunity for our students to discover new books, authors and illustrators and celebrate the joy of reading. Congratulations to all the remarkable creators recognised in this year’s awards.
