Dear SJV Families,

Can you believe we are already more than halfway through Term 2, with only four weeks remaining after this week? The term is certainly flying by, and it has been a busy and exciting time at SJV.

Over the past two weeks, our school has been buzzing with activity. We have celebrated the First Communion Commitment Mass, enjoyed the STOMP dance program and Kinder visits, participated in Interschool Sport, conducted Prep 2027 interviews for new families, and taken part in many other events and activities. Our students are incredibly fortunate to have access to such a wide range of enriching experiences.

Please keep our First Communion candidates in your thoughts and prayers as they prepare to receive this important sacrament for the first time on Sunday, 14 June at 9:00am in the Church. The students have been working diligently in preparation for this special occasion, which will be celebrated by Fr Justin.

A special thank you to Luke Brownhill, Bec Middleton, and Kerry Slater for their dedication and guidance in preparing the candidates so beautifully. We also extend our gratitude to Nicole Davies and the other staff members who have worked behind the scenes to help ensure this occasion is a meaningful and memorable celebration for all involved.

Finally students conclude for Term 2 on Friday the 26th of June at 1pm. The early finish is a necessity as the basketball court and the concrete outside the Year 1/2 classrooms is being prepared to be ripped up over the school holidays as well as the PFA and sports sheds being demolished. With these works, the holiday program will not be at SJV these school holidays and has been relocated elsewhere. Their Care will be in contact with families to notify them of this change.

SJV Athletics Carnival

On Friday the 19th of June, we are holding our annual SJV Athletics Carnival. The carnival will be held at: Mentone Athletic Track (Dolamore Athletics Track), Dolamore Reserve, Queen Street, Mentone. It will start at 9:30am and go through until 2pm.   All of the Students from Years Prep to Year 6 will be travelling by bus to and from the Athletics track. Our departure time will be at 9:10am from school. All students will return back to school by approximately 2.30-2.45pm.

If any parents are available to assist on the day, could you please contact Mrs Monotti - dominique.monotti@sjvparkdale.catholic.edu.au

We will need at least two parent helpers from each class. Parents who can assist will need to meet at the track at 9:15am and stay until 2:30pm.  Further information will be shared in digital form next week to all families.

We ask that students come dressed in their house colours and sports uniform. All children are asked to bring a packed lunch with a water bottle and plenty of healthy snacks. We encourage hats, sunscreen, beanies and coats depending on the weather. If it is raining on the day and we have to postpone, we will send a text message to all families by 9.30am.  Let's hope the weather gods smile upon us!!!!

More information will be shared closer to the date.

School Winter Uniforms

Over recent weeks, we have noticed an increasing number of students attending school without wearing the correct school uniform. As a school community, our uniform plays an important role in promoting pride, a sense of belonging, and a positive image of our school.

We ask for your support in ensuring that students come to school each day in the correct uniform, including appropriate footwear, and any required sports uniform items on designated days. Wearing the correct uniform helps maintain consistency and fairness across the school and supports students in representing our community with pride.

WINTER UNIFORM EXPECTATIONS

Regular uniform:

  • Winter tunic/skirt worn with white long sleeve SJV logo shirt, NAVY tights (no leggings) or NAVY socks
  • Navy SJV school pants or shorts worn with white long sleeve SJV logo shirt and NAVY socks
  • Navy SJV logo woolen school jumper excluding Year 6 who can wear the Year 6 jumper
  • Black LEATHER school shoes (no runners)

Sports uniform:

  • SJV tracksuit pants or shorts (purchased form uniform shop)SJV logo polo shirt
  • SJV sports jumper
  • Sneakers appropriate for sport - no fashion sneakers (ie. Sambas) worn with WHITE sports socks with NO logo

The sports uniform is to be worn ONLY on sporting days as advised by class teachers. This was also communicated in the term letters that were shared with all families early this term.

Please note no makeup or false nails are to be worn to school. Earrings are to be small studs or sleepers only. Shoulder length hair is to be tied back with either red, white or blue hair ties/headbands/ribbons/clips.

We understand that, at times, there may be circumstances that make this difficult. If this is the case, we encourage families to contact the school, if they have not already done so, so that we can work together to provide support where needed.

We ask that all students are wearing the correct school uniform by Monday 1st of June.

From this date onwards, teachers, along with myself, will be monitoring student uniform expectations closely. If students are not wearing the correct school uniform, parents will be contacted individually.

We appreciate your ongoing cooperation and support in maintaining our school standards and expectations.

Building Update

Our building program continues to progress well, with significant works taking place across a number of areas on site. Recent works have included ceiling framing and ceiling fit-off, along with electrical fit-off and vinyl tanking works. Security installation works are also scheduled to commence shortly.

Installation of the sliding windows has begun, while joinery installation continues throughout the building. External concrete works are also due to commence, with skirting and door hardware installation to follow in the coming weeks.

Works on the ramps and courtyard pavement slab are also progressing, with the required Council pavement obstruction permit currently being processed.

Over the upcoming school holidays, the PFA and sports shed will be demolished as well as the basketball court and sand pit areas. More information will follow regarding these works in the coming weeks.

We thank our community for their ongoing patience and support as we move closer to the completion of this exciting project.

School Advisory Council

The other week, we hosted our Term 2  School Advisory Council meeting. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the parents who are a part of this group who took the time out of their busy schedules to attend and actively participate.

Your insights, constructive feedback, and thoughtful contributions are instrumental in guiding our school's strategic goals and future development. It is through this vital partnership between our families and school leadership that we can continue to enhance our programs and foster an environment where our students truly thrive.

Thank you for your ongoing support, dedication, and commitment to making our school community the best it can be.

SJV Fete

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 20th @ 3:30pm.

Our annual School Fete will be held on Friday the 20th of November this year from 3.30pm to 8pm.

If you are new to the school and haven’t been a part of the SJV Fete - now is the time to get involved.  The SJV fete is famous in this area, has been running for over 50 years annually and is the most wonderful community event.

As a parent, you will get the chance to learn new skills, hone skills you have, make new friends and enhance the enjoyment of your own child’s school experience. There are many jobs in the lead up, on the day and the day after.  All families need to be involved to make this a successful event.

Please contact Nate Viviani with any questions Nathan.Viviani@inchcape.com, the office or send an email to me, principal@sjvparkdale.catholic.edu.au or put your name down in the school office to be a part of this great event.

Remember, it is our big fundraising event for the year and we encourage every family to be involved in some way.

MACS Care

As mentioned in our previous newsletters, each month we will be placing information in about the Victorian Child Safe Standards, which are a set of 11 minimum requirements that all organisations working with children must meet.

For the month of May, our focus is Child Safe Standard 5:  Equity is upheld and diverse needs respected in policy and practice.

School Closure Dates Term 2

  • The school will be closed on Friday the 5th of June as there will be a professional development day for all staff. This is the Friday of the King's Birthday long weekend.
  • The King's Birthday Holiday is Monday 8th of June. This is a public holiday and children are not required to attend school.

Reminders

The next Newsletter will be shared on Thursday 14th of June

  • The next school assembly will be on Thursday 7th of June @ 3pm in the MPR

  • Dogs - Please note that for the safety and wellbeing of all members of our community, no dogs are permitted inside the school grounds and they must not be left unattended tied up at the gates. Adult supervision and holding of the leash is so important around vulnerable places such as schools.  We love dogs but we do have to take care of all members of our community.

  • Bikes and Scooters - Please walk bikes and scooters when moving through the school grounds.

  • Punctuality - It is expected that all students are to be at school by no later than 8.45am and not any time up to 9am. From 8.45am to 9am is crucial for students to get themselves organised, start the day with Meditation, prayer, take the roll and ready to commence their day promptly. Formal lessons begin at 9am. Any child who arrives at or after 9am is to be signed in at the office by a parent/guardian. I ask all parents to make sure that you adhere to these times.

Go Tigers!!

Regards
