Around the Secondary Classes

English Extended

Students in English Extended were lucky enough to be invited to attend Guilford Young College’s English Writing Forum. 

They heard from 7 local writers who shared their experiences with writing in different genres, including poetry, essays, prose and non-fiction texts. Each author read from one of their published works, providing a teaser! They also shared their messages of how to have a writers career, and to not give up your day job!

Authors included: Danielle Wood, Brendan Colley, Katie McMahon, Nicholas Clements, Katie McMahon, Ben Walter, Amber Wilson and Jane Rawson. 

The forum included a book swapping activity. Each student received a wrapped novel, they unwrapped them simultaneously and then had two minutes of silent reading. After this time, they could swap books with someone else if they wished.

Students were captivated by the writer's words, and stories of how they live a writer's life. They left inspired and encouraged to live a creative and curious life. 

A New Partnership Takes the Stage!

We’re excited to share that our Senior Dance Troupe will be performing as part of The Hutchins School Dance Showcase on Monday 24 August at Wrest Point’s Tasman Room.

In a first-ever collaboration between our two schools, our talented senior dancers will join the showcase with a spectacular musical theatre routine, celebrating creativity, performance and the joy of dance.

This is a wonderful opportunity to support our students as they take to the stage and be part of an exciting new partnership with The Hutchins School.
