Turning Cans into Community Kindness!
Congratulations to Year 10 student Olivia Ims, who has been named joint Brighton Young Volunteer of the Year in recognition of her outstanding commitment to giving back to the community.
Through collecting and recycling cans and bottles as part of the Recycle Rewards program, Liv has raised an incredible $3,000 for local community groups. Her dedication, generosity and initiative are making a real difference, and your actions are an inspiring reminder that even small acts can have a big impact.
Taking the Court for Tasmania!
Congratulations to Isabelle Adams on an incredible week representing Tasmania at the School Sport Australia U15 Netball Championships.
Isabelle was a fantastic contributor both on and off the court, helping to build a strong team culture through her encouragement, communication and support of her teammates.
Throughout the championships, Isabelle embraced new learnings, continued to develop her game, and made a valuable impact in both attack and defence.
ANZBA Art Competition - Diversity in Burns Care
In May, Rebecca Schrale, from The Tasmanian Burns Unit at the Royal Hobart Hospital and the Australian & New Zealand Burns Association (ANZBA) invited students from Years 7 - 10 to create and submit a piece of art that could be used on promotional material for the Bi-National Annual Scientific Conference for the Australian and New Zealand Burns Association which was being held in Hobart in September. The conference brings together clinicians including Allied Health, Nursing, Medical and Researchers across Australia and New Zealand and international speakers. The artwork will also be used for promotion of the Tasmanian Burns Unit at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
The artwork had to be an original, two-dimensional design created without AI-generated images and include the ANZBA logo. Entries needed to avoid flames and orange/red colour themes, instead use nature-inspired imagery and colours such as green and blue. The design had to promote the message "Cool the burn for 20 minutes" and reflect the theme "Diversity and Inclusive Health Care for burn injured patients and their families, friends and carers across all ages and our staff,".
A number of students took up the challenge and created beautiful and powerful interpretations of these themes. Congratulations to the following students. The judging panel were so impressed with the quality, creative interpretation and mindful representation of the theme and provided some thoughtful feedback.
First Place : Neave Riches
We were so impressed with how Neave represented the theme, the messaging was thoughtful and insightful. Capturing burns care for patients , families, and our staff perfectly. The 6 judges unanimously chose this artwork. In particular, the artist's statement, the complexity of the images within the hands, the clock cradled within the hands, the crack and the inclusion of a drawn logo.
Second Place (Tied) : Seren Lewis
We loved the whimsy, the crinkle, the waterfall, the trees, the artist's statement and the 20 clocks for 20 minutes. The concept was creative, well thought-out and covered many of the themes within the brief- without any words needed. Well done!!
Second Place (Tied) : Florence Cousins
The medium was beautiful and creative, the metallic paint and the texture throughout the artwork was beautiful, simple and meaningful. Well done!
Third Place : Nimella Thornton
The beautiful picture of the indigenous person with the tap as a waterfall.
We loved this picture of the strong young person- highlighting gender diversity, youth, and first nations with the tap as the waterfall and the nature theme of regeneration. Well done- this was also a firm favourite of everyone’s. Wow can she draw/paint!
