Musical Performances - Assembly Dates

Foundation - Friday 20 October – 2.45pm in Gym (Week 3)
Grade 5 – Friday 27 October – 2.45pm in Gym (Week 4)
Choir & Grade 6 – Friday 3 November – 2.45pm in Gym (Week 5)
Concert Band – Friday 10 November – 2.45pm in Gym (Week 6)

Please note that Grades 1-4 have not been scheduled as yet at time of printing

Confident Comperes

Students will have the opportunity to introduce items at their assembly performance. I’ve spoken with students about this and have suggested they ‘give it a go’! If they feel public speaking is a challenge, then this is a perfect opportunity for them to say a few lines to an audience. They will be given a short sentence to rehearse at home prior to the performance (introductions will be available at the performance, so nothing needs to be memorised). The aim is to speak clearly and slowly - and build confidence in our students!

Please note that if there are more students than lines available, I will choose students by picking names out of a hat (literally)!

Foundation

Students are getting very excited about performing next Friday 20 October at assembly!

Many students are keen to introduce items themselves. I have written speaking parts which are short in length so as to provide as many of our enthusiastic students the opportunity to present.

Speaking parts will be sent home on Friday, along with some helpful tips that we use in the Music Room. It would be beneficial (and very much appreciated) if you could please further practise these at home before our lesson together next week (our final one before the performance!) Thankyou.

Grades 1 and 2

Students are continuing their comprehension of beat and rhythm charts using body percussion and advancing to instruments. Each class is developing their own musical item to perform later this year.

Grades 3 and 4

Grade 3 students are developing their technique, hand position, and posture when playing tuned percussion instruments to 'I Just Love ABBA' and 'Cabbage Cafe'.

Grade 4 students are collaborating with class members to compose a folk dance. They are also singing and playing their song as a 2-part round.

Grades 5 and 6

How fortunate we are at BPS to have such a wonderful outdoor learning space - especially on a lovely spring afternoon! Grade 5 students in the photo above are rehearsing for their assembly performance on Friday 27 October at 2.45pm in the gym.

Grades 5 and 6 students are using their voices to perform music and sing music in different styles. They are working on demonstrating technical and expressive skills, performing with accuracy and expression for audiences.

Choir

The Choir have been rehearsing new songs and rounds and are looking forward to performing on:

Friday 3 November – at assembly - 2.45pm in Gym (Week 5)
Tuesday 14 November - Evening of Music (Week 7)

The Evening of Music, held at One. Church (opposite BPS) is definitely a highlight of the BPS musical calendar! Please lock this date into your diary.

Choristers are to wear the same performance clothing as they did for the Mid-Year Soiree earlier this year:

a plain, bright coloured tee (no collar or logo)
black pants / leggings / stockings and skirt (no bare legs, please!)

Music Appreciation

How do we make informed choices about the music we like to listen to,

perform or create if we are not exposed to a diverse range of music?

Each week a different musical genre (or style) is played over the loudspeaker at bell times so that students become familiar with a variety of genres and artists. All songs chosen are child-appropriate.

Today the song 'Fire Truck' was featured to coincide with the Foundation fire safety incursion. What an earworm! Students in other year levels couldn't stop singing it!
