Term 4, Week 2
Welcome back for our final term of the year. We hope you all had a wonderful holiday period with family and friends!
This year has flown by but we are so excited to kick off a new term and consolidate all of the amazing learning that has happened so far during the year.
As mentioned in last term’s 1/2 newsletter, please keep up to date with all emails/Compass notifications and social media posts for information shared during this term.
Our Integrated unit this term is “How Are We Connected?”. It is a geography unit where we will build on our learning from Term 2 and focus on Indigenous perspective and the significance of their connection to land and Country. We will also dive into our connection to places special to us, caring for the world around us as well as collecting and recording geographical data.
In Reading and Writing, we will be using some strong mentor texts to scaffold your child’s learning. If you are interested in looking into these texts, they can be found on your child’s Showbie. Our ‘Word of the Week’ vocabulary work will be based on words from these texts and we will be beginning to build student’s understanding of themes and the author’s message. In Writer’s Workshop, we will focus on teaching the persuasive text structure through our 6 + 1 Traits. Students will continue to work through the Writing Process, experimenting with vocabulary, different text structures and displaying their creativity and agency in their presentation.
We are continuing to explore at least one open ended, problem solving maths task each week. This helps students build and expand their mathematical proficiencies and begin connecting many different mathematical concepts.
This term in Maths we will be covering the following topics:
If you have any questions about any of the above, please feel free to reach out to your child’s classroom teacher. Year 1/2 Team
