你好 (nǐ hǎo), everyone! Welcome to Term 4 Mandarin. 

Foundation

  • Recognize and properly pronounce eight family members including ‘Dad’, ‘Mum’, ‘Grandpa’, ‘Grandma’, ‘older brother’, ‘older sister’, ‘younger brother’ and ‘younger sister’.
  • Song: My Family
  • Activity: Create a family poster

Grade 1

  • Continue learning how to name 12 Chinese Zodiac Animals in the correct order including rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.
  • Recognize and properly pronounce ‘likes & dislikes’. Construct sentences to express like & dislike by using a simple sentence pattern ‘I like/do not like…’ in Mandarin.
  • Song: Two Tiger
  • Activity: Paper cutting

Grade 2

  • Continue with Chinese Supermarket War (the first 3 weeks). 
  • Recognize and properly pronounce ‘big & small’ and ‘have & don’t have’. Construct sentences to describe facial features by using a simple sentence pattern ‘I have/do not have…’ in Mandarin.
  • Activity: Create a Chinese poster ‘Me’

Grade 3

  • Continue with My Restaurant Rules (the first 3 weeks).
  • Recognize and name 13 western foods and 12 Chinese foods.
  • Chinese Cultural Study: the Terracotta Warriors

Grade 4

  • Continue with Pump Up (the first 3 weeks).
  • Recognize and name 11 ball sports and 9 Olympic sports.
  • Chinese Cultural Study: the Forbidden City

Grade 5

  • Continue with Around the World (the first 3 weeks).
  • Recognize and name 21 countries.
  • Chinese Cultural Study: the Great Wall

Grade 6

  • Continue with School Tycoon (the first 3 weeks).
  • Recognize and name 9 school facilities: classroom, toilet, office, sick bay, staffroom, oval, parking lot, gym and library.
  • Recognize and name 3 school staff roles and 7 school subjects.
  • Ask ‘Yes or No’ questions and questions about ‘who’ and ‘where’ in sentences
  • Chinese Cultural Study: the Giant Panda
  • Activity: sewing project - a felt panda toy

Extracurricular - Chinese Dance Club

  • Time: Every Wednesday lunchtime
  • Venue: Multipurpose Room (MPR)
