Library

Book Week is here! The theme with year is Book an adventure and with that in mind we have some exciting, adventure-themed activities running from Monday 18th to Friday 29th August.
The first activity is a ‘Treasure Hunt’ – students need to collect an entry sheet from the library and follow the directions given to find all 10 clues hidden across the school. They must then solve the riddle on each clue to correctly guess the title of a book.
For the second activity, students must take a look at the library display to figure out where all 17 BHS staff are located on their adventure.
There are some great prizes to be won, including Dymocks gift cards, chocolates and caf vouchers!
Students participating in the Premier’s Reading Challenge are reminded to log all their books online ahead of the deadline on Friday 5th September. We also need verification from parents (a short written note or email to library@bhs.vic.edu.au) to confirm that students have read at least 15 books.
Book of the Week
Maria Petranelli
by Eliza Chenoweth
Maria considers herself capable of anything and hates it when people underestimate her. When her overbearing Italian-Australian family say she could never survive in somewhere like Italy, she becomes determined to prove them wrong and enrolls in an exchange program.
Once she arrives in Rome, Maria finds friends in unexpected places, including Kennedy, an American girl also on exchange, who seems determined to make Maria her friend! The girls go exploring in Rome and quickly become (unwittingly) embroiled in a crime! Was her family right – should Maria have stayed home?
Maria Petranelli is prepared for anything is a fast-paced, exciting, and highly enjoyable adventure with very relatable and loveable characters, that will have you cringing and howling with laughter!
