It has been a huge start to Term 3 with so many of our teams heading out to represent BHS in their respective sports, showcasing not only their athletic talents but also their teamwork, school spirit, and determination. From the courts to the fields, our students have been giving their best efforts and making the school community proud.

Year 7 Sports

Basketball

Our Year 7 boys and girls teams headed out last Thursday to represent BHS at Beyond Bank Stadium.

All three teams played with great spirit and teamwork throughout the competition. While they didn’t progress to the finals, both groups gained valuable experience and represented BHS proudly.

Table Tennis

Our year 7 boys and girls table tennis teams headed out last Thursday to Geelong Table Tennis Centre.

A big congratulations to the year 7 girls table tennis team who have progressed through to WMR. The team showed fantastic skill and determination, and we wish them the very best in the next stage of competition.

Although the boys didn’t make it through to finals, they displayed great team work and persistence against some hard competition.

Volleyball

What a day at year 7 volleyball!

Our year 7 volleyball teams had an excellent day of competition last Thursday at Corio Leisuretime Centre.

The boys team was outstanding, finishing the day undefeated and securing their place at WMR. Their consistent teamwork, communication, and determination on court were a highlight, and they should be very proud of this achievement.

The girls team also showed great effort and skill, winning two of their three matches. Despite a narrow loss, they displayed strong resilience and improvement with each game.

Both teams represented BHS with pride and set a high standard for future competitions.

Year 8 Sports

Basketball

On Thursday, three of our Year 8 basketball teams travelled to AWA Stadium to compete for their spots in the Western Metropolitan Region finals.

The girls’ team were nothing short of outstanding. Their teamwork, determination, and skill carried them all the way through to the grand final. In a tightly contested match against Western Heights, they put up a strong fight but narrowly went down. Finishing as runners-up in such a competitive tournament is an incredible achievement, and the whole team should be proud of their efforts.

The boys faced a challenging draw, coming up against some very tough opposition. Despite managing only one win for the day, they displayed excellent sportsmanship and resilience throughout each game. What stood out most was the way they represented Belmont High School with pride, respect, and a positive attitude both on and off the court.

Overall, it was a fantastic day of competition that highlighted the dedication, talent, and school spirit of our Year 8 students. Thank you to coaches Mr McKenna and Mr Smith for giving up their time to take out these teams.

Table Tennis

All of the training for this moment paid off – our year 8 boys table tennis team are through to WMR!

Dedication, determination and resilience is what both of these table tennis teams showed at Geelong Table Tennis Centre on Thursday.

Unfortunately. the girls team had a hard match to begin with, but the regrouped and came out fighting for the remainder of the day.

A big thank you to Mr Hebbard for dedicating his lunchtimes to training the teams and for his excellent coaching on the day.

Volleyball

A huge congratulations to our Year 8 girls volleyball team, who dominated the competition to finish the day as undefeated champions! The girls gave 100% in every match, showing incredible teamwork, determination, and support for one another.

Their effort and sportsmanship were outstanding, and they represented BHS with pride throughout the tournament. With this impressive performance, they have now secured their place at the Western Metropolitan Region finals.

WMR Netball

What a day of BHS pride! Last Monday, three of our boys netball teams (Year 7, Year 8 and Intermediates) got on the bus nice and early and headed off to Altona for the WMR Boys Netball.

Each team took on the opportunity and fought hard to the very end, showing determination, persistence and team work to win.

Year 7 – The undefeated champions! What a way to win. The boys were resilient, persisted and showed all other schools what it meant to be BHS. These superstars took the opportunity and came out on top and are through to States in September.

Year 8 – The Year 8 team fought hard in every match and finished with some very close results. Unfortunately, after a draw, it came down to goal difference, and they narrowly missed out on progressing by just one goal.

Inters – The intermediate team showed what it meant to be BHS. The epitome of team work! After a tough grand final battle, they came out victorious and are through to States in September.

The unity shown between all three teams was extraordinary! Each team showed up and cheered on whoever was playing and got around each other in support throughout the whole day.

As the intermediate boys grand final was the very last game for the day, the year 7’s and year 8’s headed over to support and cheer their older peers on. The atmosphere was euphoric!

A huge congratulations to all that competed, showed up and represented BHS. We are extremely proud. Bring on States in a few weeks!

Senior Sports

For a lot of our senior sports, this is the last time the year 12’s would represent their school at interschool sports. We are grateful for the opportunity that they have taken and the leadership, respect and resilience they have shown.

Senior Basketball

An amazing day and effort shown by both our senior boys and senior girls teams.

The senior girls won 2 of their 3 games in their pool and built their confidence across the day. These legends played through the day with only 6 players. Talk about resilient!

The senior boys won all of their pool games and made it through to the semi-final where they faced off against Grovedale. They came away winning by 20 and were ready to face Western Heights in the grand final. The boys led at half time and were ready to take home the flag, but Western Heights pulled away to take the victory.

Quoting Coach Mac “No BHS team has ever pushed Western Heights as hard as what our boys did today!”

Thank you to Coach Mac and Miss Scannell for taking out the Seniors for their last time pulling on the green jumpers.

Senior Netball

Team work, dedication, persistence, resilience. These are the words to describe the team that is the senior girls netball.

This team, showed up week after week, training during lunch times and after school to prepare for the netball. Each week they grew, became closer, and worked as a united front.

A tough, hard fought first game set us back but that wasn’t going to stop this team. We came back harder and hungrier then ever to fight for victory.

The girls won 2 of their 3 games and unfortunately missed out on finals. The girls worked hard and should be so proud of what they achieved.

For half of these girls, this was their last time pulling on a green dress and representing BHS at interschool sports. Filled with mixed emotions, they stepped onto the court for the last time and showed everyone, what it meant to come from Belmont.

Senior Hockey

What a group of superstars – our senior hockey team!

The senior hockey team headed out under the guidance of Mr Healey to secure a place at WMR. The team demonstrated outstanding skill, teamwork, and determination on the field, consistently supporting one another and playing with great sportsmanship. The team backed each other and came out on top, undefeated and through to WMR.

They then headed off to WMR and came up against some hard competition, down a few players and with players facing injuries but ready to fight to get through to States.

From all accounts, this was an amazing day of team work, dedication, resilience and persistence. The drew all of their games, and it came down to goals scored to see which school would make it through. Unfortunately, they went down by 1! This is still a huge effort and we are so proud of this team and what they were able to achieve.
