Student Leaders Shape Our School Values Beyond the Classroom
Last week, our student leaders in Years 7-12 came together for a School Values Review Focus Group, playing a key role in strengthening how we exemplify our values of Respect, Opportunity, and Resilience across all areas of school life.
While our Positive Behaviour Matrix already sets clear expectations for the classroom, our leaders identified a need to extend these behaviours to non-classroom settings such as:
- The oval
- The canteen
- The Library
- Toilets
- Assemblies
- The courts
- Online
During the session, students worked collaboratively to create positively phrased, actionable behaviours for these areas—practical guidelines that will help every student understand how to demonstrate our values, no matter where they are in the school.
The discussions were lively, thoughtful, and solution-focused, with leaders drawing on their own experiences to ensure the behaviours are both realistic and positive.
Next steps:
We are now collating the ideas from the focus group and we will soon commence work on designing clear, visually appealing signs and posters to be displayed in each space. These will act as daily reminders for students, reinforcing positive behaviour in ways that are visible, specific, and easy to follow.
By involving our students directly in this process, we are not only building a stronger school culture but also empowering our young leaders to shape the environment they learn in. Their voices are central to this work, and the behaviours they’ve created will soon become the benchmark for how we encourage and support all students to strive for the highest—whether it’s in the classroom, on the courts, out on the oval, or in shared spaces across the school.
We thank our student leaders for their enthusiasm, leadership, and vision in helping to create a school where Respect, Opportunity, and Resilience are truly lived every day.
Teacher/Staff Appreciation
Many students have taken the opportunity to demonstrate their gratitude by completing a teacher/staff appreciation token. These are located at the general office and in the library and students are encouraged to take a moment to thank a teacher/staff member who has made a difference.
