School-wide Positive Behaviour Support

At Carnegie Primary School, we are committed to fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued, supported and successful. As part of our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework, we are excited to introduce our whole-school acknowledgement system.

The SWPBS Acknowledgement System is designed to recognise and reinforce our school values of Respect, Resilience, Curiosity and Integrity. When staff observe students demonstrating behaviours that align with our Matrix of Expected Behaviours, they will provide specific positive feedback by naming the behaviour and school value being demonstrated.

These positive acknowledgements will be recorded and contribute to our whole-school celebration system. Students may be acknowledged by any staff member, at any time and in any location across the school, ensuring positive behaviours are recognised consistently throughout the learning environment.

At each whole-school assembly, seven students—one from each year level—will be selected and recognised for demonstrating our school values. These students will receive a certificate and be acknowledged in the school newsletter. In addition, students who receive five acknowledgements for the same school value will earn a value wristband as recognition of their ongoing commitment to demonstrating that value.

This SWPBS Acknowledgement System will replace the current house points system for day-to-day positive behaviour recognition, however house points will continue to be used during sporting events and inter-house competitions

By consistently recognising positive behaviours and celebrating student success, we aim to strengthen positive relationships between students and staff, build a strong school culture and encourage all students to make respectful, resilient and curious choices every day while showing integrity. We value our partnership with families in supporting a positive and consistent approach to student wellbeing and engagement.
