Spotlight on Learning
Damascus Community
Dear Families,
This week, Year 2 students reflected on their learning as we came to the end of a busy and productive Term 2. In Religious Education, students revised key learning from the term, including Holy Week, Mother Mary, Pentecost, the Rosary, St Thomas the Apostle, Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week. In English, students continued exploring informative texts and factual recounts through their learning about space exploration and the Curiosity Mars Rover. They practised identifying key information, using topic words and time connectives, and explaining how diagrams and illustrations support a reader’s understanding. In Mathematics, students continued learning about capacity by comparing and ordering containers using informal units and mathematical language such as more, less, holds more, holds less and about the same. Students also reviewed their Integrated Curriculum learning about Australia and continued building their Auslan communication skills through signs, gestures, facial expressions and visual communication.
Thank you for your support throughout Term 2. We wish all families a safe and restful holiday break.

Religious Education:
Students will begin exploring traditions within the Catholic Church. They will start to investigate how prayer, symbols, rituals and celebrations help Catholic communities express their faith and remember what matters.
English:
Students will begin reading The Lorax and exploring how authors use language to share ideas and messages. They will look at figurative language, statements and questions, and begin working with narrative writing before moving into persuasive writing later in the term.
Mathematics:
Students will begin exploring patterns and how patterns can grow, repeat and be described. This learning will help students build important thinking that leads into multiplication.
Integrated Curriculum:
Students will begin new learning for Term 3. More information about this learning will be shared as the unit is introduced.
Auslan:
Students will continue developing their confidence using known signs, facial expressions, gestures and visual communication. They will revise familiar signs and begin building on their communication skills through games, short phrases and classroom interactions.
Social & Emotional Learning:
Students will begin learning about gender norms. They will explore how everyone can have different interests, strengths and feelings, and how we can show respect for ourselves and others.

Read together each night and talk about the message in a story. Ask your child what the author might want the reader to think, feel or learn.
Practise maths in everyday life by noticing patterns at home or outside, such as patterns in tiles, clothes, blocks, counting, or nature. Ask your child to describe what repeats or what changes.
Please ensure that you are labelling your child's belongings.
Please remind your child to change their reading books when they need to.
