Dear Families,
We would like to say a massive thank you to all of you for making the second term of 2026 successful. We finished the term with lots of highlights including, a team building incursion for the students, parent-teacher inteviews and St Thomas Day on Friday.
Finally, please don't forget to take care of your seeds over the holidays and send photos of them growing when they do !
The year 1 team, wishes everyone a safe and relaxing break. We are looking forward to another term of learning soon.
Happy Holidays!

Religious Education: This week we wrapped up our learning reading the Parable of the Sower, and then prepared for St Thomas Day celebrations.
Next term, we will begin to unpack what celebrations and traditions look like in various families and cultures from our community
Writing: We read about Zog and Flying Doctors. We talked about the lessons learnt from fiction stories such as helping people in need, which aligns with our religious and moral values. Next term we begin with reading about the Day the Crayons Quit.
Reading: We are revising all sounds we have learnt this term and working on contractions to finish out the week.
Mathematics: This week, students learnt about different measurement concepts. Exploring length, capacity and mass.
Next term, students will be learning about sharing and grouping starting with sharing items equally in a group.
Integrated Curriculum: This week, students demonstrated their mapping skills by designing creative maps of Zog and the Flying Doctors' adventures. They used directional language, cardinal directions, and map keys and symbols to identify and represent the different locations on the journey.
Social and Emotional Learning: This week, students reflected on their incursion and discussed important skills they practised, including problem-solving, teamwork, and help-seeking. They then wrote a recount of their experience and illustrated their writing with detailed drawings.
Auslan: This week in Auslan we finished revising the Auslan signs we have learnt over the semester and using them in conversation. Next term, we will use signs to ask someone if they would like to play.

• Listen to your child read regularly and encourage them to use their decoding strategies when they come to an unfamiliar word.
• After reading, ask your child to retell what happened, share their favourite part, or explain how a character was feeling.
• Re-reading familiar texts is a great way to build confidence, fluency and expression.
• Notice numbers in everyday places and ask questions like, “How many altogether?” or “How do you know?”
• A curious question to ask this week could be: What is something you learned that you are proud of?
Please ensure that you are labelling your child's belongings.
Can we please ask for a pair of socks and underwear to be placed in the front zip pocket of your child's school bag in case of a toileting accident.
