Spotlight on Learning
Bethany Community
Dear Families,
As Term 2 comes to a close, we would like to thank you for your ongoing support throughout a busy and successful semester of learning. We are proud of the effort, growth and achievements demonstrated by all students this term.
We would also like to thank the parents and students who attended Parent-Teacher Interviews. These conversations are a valuable opportunity to celebrate student achievements, discuss progress, and strengthen the partnership between home and school.
We look forward to welcoming students back on Monday 14 July for the beginning of Term 3. Students will also have the exciting opportunity to attend a performance of Hadestown at St Peter's College, providing a wonderful experience in the performing arts.
We wish all families a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to another rewarding term ahead.
We congratulate the following students who achieved a credit in the CAT Maths assessment:
Elisah - 5B
Anesha - 5C

Religious Education:
Next term, our Religious Education theme will be "Keeping the Flame Alive." Students will explore how Catholic traditions have been passed down through generations and continue to shape the lives of Catholics today. To deepen their understanding of this theme, students will engage with the Scriptures Luke 22:14–20 and Luke 24:13–35, examining how the teachings and traditions of Jesus have been shared and kept alive throughout history.
English:
Next term, students will begin reading the class novel Thomas Appleby, Convict Boy. The story follows Tom Appleby, an eight-year-old chimney sweep who was wrongly accused of stealing and transported to Australia as a convict. Through the novel, students will gain an insight into life in England during the late 1700s and explore the challenges faced by children at that time. Students will also begin to unpack unfamiliar vocabulary from the text and develop their understanding of the historical context in which the story is set.
Mathematics:
Next term, our Year 5 students will begin learning about fractions. Students will build on their existing understanding of fractions as they explore how to add and subtract fractions with the same and related denominators. They will use visual models, number lines, and hands-on activities to develop a deeper understanding of fraction concepts and learn how fractions can be applied to real-world situations.
Integrated Curriculum:
In Semester 2, Year 4 students will explore the Arts through Drama, Music and Dance, developing their creativity, collaboration and communication skills. In Term 3, students will begin with Drama, using storytelling, performance and role-play to explore ideas and express their understanding. Throughout the unit, students will make meaningful connections to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, fostering respect for culture, identity and diverse ways of knowing and sharing stories.
Auslan:
For Auslan, in week 1 term 3, students will be learning that signed languages use a range of visual features to represent the shapes of objects, the emotions of characters, and the ways characters move and interact. Our weekly vocabulary focus will include:
Social & Emotional Learning:
In Term 3, Year 5 students will revisit the routines, expectations and values of St Thomas. This will provide an opportunity to strengthen positive learning habits, build respectful relationships, and reinforce the shared responsibility of creating a safe, inclusive and productive learning environment for all.
