Year 3 & 4
Around our level
We have been having lots of fun in Year 3/4 over the last 2 weeks of Term 2. For our graphing and statistics work, we gave each student M&Ms as the prompt for data collection. Students had to predict how many M&Ms were in each packet, and how many of each colour. They plotted their information on a graph, and also collated the whole class's information. The best part was when we got to eat the chocolate!

In our writing lessons, we have been practising how to write letters. We learnt how to write our home address on an envelope and we designed our own stamps. This week, students have written formal letters to their parents, asking them to change a rule that they have at their house. There was quite a variety of rules that students wished to change, however, the most common one was asking for a later bedtime. Let’s see if their persuasive language has convinced any rule changes!

In our reading lessons, we made text to world connections by looking at events, such as the Brisbane Floods in 2011 and Black Saturday bushfires. We read the books by Jackie French, ‘Flood’ and ‘Fire’, which were inspired by the real life events. Whilst these were difficult topics, our focus was on the volunteers and how communities came together to help others.
