Music Excellence

Congratulations to Aaron W (Year 12), Hillary Zhou (Class of 2024) and Owen H (Year 10) who attended their awards ceremony for their achievements in music!

Aaron and Owen both were awarded AMusA (Associate in Music, Australia) diplomas and Hillary was awarded her LMusA (Licentiate in Music, Australia).

AMusA (Associate in Music, Australia) and LMusA (Licentiate in Music, Australia) are both diplomas awarded by the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB), with LMusA being a higher-level qualification, often considered equivalent to a bachelor's degree.

An AMusA practical examination is conducted by two examiners. Candidates must present a repertoire from the prescribed lists of pieces that is 25–40 minutes in length, with a further ten minutes testing musical general knowledge of the pieces presented.

An LMusA practical examination is conducted by two examiners (one Federal examiner who maintains consistency in the national standard, and one state examiner who is a specialist in the instrument being examined). Candidates must present a repertoire from the prescribed lists of pieces that is 35 - 50 minutes in length, with a further ten minutes testing musical general knowledge of the pieces presented.

In both exams, the standard of musicianship required to achieve the award is very high, considered to that of a professional soloist. The depth of experience gained from previous years of exam successes is critical to the development of musicianship required to undertake an AmusA or LMusA exam.
