From the Chaplaincy

Have you ever played around with a word or a name to form an acrostic? I love to create an acrostic birthday message with the person’s name, for instance:

Dear Jane,

You are:

Joyful

Amusing and amazing

Nurturing

Eloquent, extraordinary, empathetic and endearing.

However, the Chaplaincy Team’s message today is not about acrostic birthday messages, it is about EASTER, and what it means to Christians around the world, what it means to us.

Exemplary – Jesus was exemplary in his enlarged, encompassing sense of love and forgiveness;

Affection – M.B. Eddy writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: ‘Through the magnitude of his human life, he demonstrated the divine Life. Out of the amplitude of his pure affection, he defined Love. With the affluence of Truth, he vanquished error.’

Sacrifice – Jesus’s sacrifice was supreme, unparalleled, sublime. ‘His consummate example was for the salvation of us all’ and further on MBE says that our salvation is realised ‘only through doing the works which he did and taught others to do.’

Timeless – Jesus’s love, his teachings, his example have stood the test of time and continue to be relevant and tangible and thankworthy. Let our actions testify the abundance of our gratitude.

Embody – let us embody that which makes us a shining example of The Golden Rule: ‘Treat others as you want them to treat you’ – Matthew 7:12. Elevate this to the ‘platinum rule’ – Treat others the way they would like to be treated.

Reflect – Easter is a time to reflect on the remarkable life of Jesus, to reflect on our discipleship – are we truly grateful for his sacrifice and his triumph? Are we truly followers of his teachings?

Wishing you all a blessed Easter and wonderful holiday break!
