Year 9 Triathlon

This year’s Year 9 Triathlon saw great feats of athletic prowess, strong-willed and determined competitors, and an overall sense of camaraderie and encouragement all around. We could not have asked for a better day or better conditions, with the temperature warming to a very pleasant 23 degrees and not a cloud in sight. This made for quick racing conditions, and race quick they did!

After an intensive seven week training program, alongside a plethora of other sporting commitments, this Year 9 cohort exceeded expectations, with many smashing the goals they had set at the end of last year. They all rose to the occasion and displayed the best version of themselves, demonstrating the resilience instilled in them through the rigors of double training sessions on Tuesday afternoons.

A huge thank you to the Year 10 Sport and Rec students for all they did on the day, from setup to pack-up and assisting with tasks big and small throughout. A huge shout-out to all the teachers who gave up their valuable time, whether during training sessions to ride or run with the students, or on the day to offer their support and encouragement and man the many stations set up around the course. Also, to parent volunteer Winnie Cheng, who ensured no one got lost on the run to the finish line.

Finally, a huge congratulations to all the Year 9s who participated and completed the triathlon. I could not be prouder of their efforts.

Year 8 Geography Excursion

Our Year 8 students had the opportunity last week to take their classroom learning into the field where they examined the impacts of erosion, deposition and human management on coastal environments. Students then worked in pairs back at school to synthesise their information collected in the field into a fieldwork report.

Year 10 Media Music Video

Our epic Year 10 Media students just wrapped up filming on their ambitious one-shot music video project - a full-scale production of ‘Beauty and a Beat’ by Justin Bieber! The students planned meticulously for the shoot featuring choreography, costume changes, props and dynamic lighting setups.

A huge congratulations to the class for their dedication and teamwork, including those who stepped into roles such as director, producer, choreographer, cinematographer. A special mention also go to the teachers who helped and the students who joined as party extras!

Year 12 Art Making & Exhibiting Excursion to NGV

Our Year 12 Art Making & Exhibiting students recently attended an excursion to the National Gallery of Victoria to experience the captivating world of Yayoi Kusama. This exhibition showcased Kusama’s signature immersive installations, vibrant polka-dot motifs, and infinity mirror rooms, offering students a firsthand encounter with her exploration of repetition, space, and self-obliteration. Through large-scale installations and interactive elements, the exhibition highlighted Kusama’s lifelong fascination with infinity, psychology, and the connections between art and audience.

This visit was an essential part of students' Unit 3, Area of Study 3, which focuses on the presentation of artworks. Observing the curatorial methods used to display Kusama’s works provided valuable insight into how exhibitions are planned, artworks are contextualised, and audience engagement is considered. Students analysed how space, lighting, and placement influence interpretation and deepen the impact of an artist’s vision. This experience will inform their own decision-making processes as they prepare to present their own bodies of work.

Engaging with a globally celebrated contemporary artist in a major gallery setting enriched students' understanding of professional art practice and the role of exhibitions in communicating ideas. The NGV excursion not only deepened their appreciation for Kusama’s artistic legacy but also provided them with inspiration and practical knowledge to apply to their own art-making and exhibiting processes.

Art Club

Art Club has been running weekly on Wednesdays during Period 6, offering students a creative space to explore ceramics, glazing, and underglazing while also providing extra time to develop their artworks. Many have embraced the opportunity to extend their practice beyond class, making the most of the studio space to refine their skills and experiment with new techniques in painting, drawing, sculpture, and more. Next term, the focus will shift to larger collaborative projects, including ceramic murals that will bring students together to create lasting artworks for the school community.

Celebrating Student Art Around the School

The school has been bursting with creativity as student artworks continue to be exhibited in various spaces, bringing colour and inspiration to our hallways, shared areas, and Performing Arts Centre. From vibrant paintings and detailed drawings to intricate ceramic pieces and striking relief foam prints, student creativity is on full display. These displays highlight the talent and dedication of our young artists across all year levels. The rotating exhibitions not only celebrate their hard work but also allow the wider school community to engage with and appreciate the diverse range of artistic expression. With new works being added regularly, these spaces continue to evolve, ensuring there is always something fresh to discover.

Crêpe Day!

On Thursday 27 March, our French students delighted the school community with the much-anticipated Crêpe Day! As always, the event was a resounding success, filling the air with the irresistible aroma of freshly made crêpes and the joyous chatter of eager food lovers.

The highlight of the day was Cedric’s expertly crafted, authentically flavoured crêpes - each bite a perfect balance of delicate texture and rich taste. From classic sugar and lemon to indulgent chocolate delights, there was something to satisfy every craving.

Crêpe Day is more than just a culinary tradition; it’s a celebration of culture, community, and the simple pleasure of good food shared among friends. Once again, our French students brought warmth and flavour to our school in the most delicious way.

Vive Crêpe Day!

Clue! - VCE Theatre Studies

It was with immense pride that I observed the recent student production of Clue. The dedication and talent exhibited by the students in the Theatre Studies class in bringing this classic play to life were truly commendable. Their nuanced portrayals and skillful execution made for an engaging and entertaining theatrical experience.

Furthermore, the success of this production was significantly enhanced by the enthusiastic involvement of numerous student volunteers. I extend my sincere gratitude to the Head Crew who contributed their time and expertise across various crucial roles: Olivia (Director), Savreen (Assistant Director/Stage Manager), Arundathi (Miss Scarlet), Sanya/Emma/Tanya (Costume), Tegan/Arundathi/Tonia/Isabel/Pearl (Hair/Makeup), Ruby/Akira (Props), Odessa/Hannah/Zian (Set), Akira (Professor Plum), Tara/Nyah/Kishaya (Lighting), Zian (Mr. Green), Chris (Sound), Hannah (The Cook), Odessa (The Motorist), Hannah/Olivia W./Sanya O./Emma D. (Ensemble), Lara/ Anay/Eli (Ushers), Olivia W. (Singing Telegram), Hannah/Sanya O. (Officers), and the dedicated backstage team including Jack, Eli, Matthew, Mirabella, James, Anay, alongside other invaluable student helpers.

The exceptional quality of this production, conceived and executed entirely by our student body, is a testament to their talent, collaborative spirit and commitment to excellence. The standard achieved did not fail to meet the consistently high expectations we have come to associate with Huntingtower productions. This endeavour was also greatly facilitated by the generous support and guidance of Troy, the advertising assistance and photography provided by Georgia, and the comprehensive recording of the performances by Connick and his film crew. Their contributions are deeply appreciated.
