Yellow PLC

It has been an incredible start to Semester 2 in the Yellow PLC! It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through Term 3. Students have settled in quickly to classroom routines, which highlights the growth in their confidence, understanding, and social connections throughout the year.
In English, we’ve been focussing on developing phonological knowledge through a variety of engaging learning experiences. These have included the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices, letter craft activities, handwriting practice, and sensory-based tasks. Students have enjoyed exploring a range of books this term – Dear Zoo, Bug Hotel, and Incy Wincy Spider, just to name a few. Their enthusiastic engagement and smiling faces show how much joy they’re getting from these literacy experiences.
In mathematics, students have been exploring place value up to 20 and beyond, Australian coins and notes, days of the week, and comparison skills. Hands-on learning has included matching coins and notes, creating coin rubbings, ordering objects, sequencing days of the week, and comparing groups of items. These engaging activities have supported students’ understanding in meaningful and enjoyable ways.
This term in Respectful Relationships, students have been learning about problem solving in social contexts. Through structured lessons and play-based experiences, students are learning to share, take turns, show kindness, and build respectful relationships with their peers.
To support students’ social and emotional growth, all classes continue to participate in The Resilience Project and Respectful Relationships programs. This term, our focus has been on emotions – what they feel like in our bodies, how to name them, and how to express them. These are complex but vital skills, and students are supported through staff modelling, interactive resources like songs and videos, and plenty of opportunities to practise.
We’ve had a busy and exciting term filled with special events, including Principal’s Day, Science Week, and Book Week! In science, students explored chemical reactions through fun and safe experiments. A highlight from the term was the visit from Ambulance Victoria, where students had the chance to explore the inside of an ambulance and interact with equipment. This valuable experience aimed to reduce fear and build familiarity, should they ever need to travel in and ambulance in the future.
Thank you for your continued support and trust. We deeply value our partnership with you and look forward to sharing more of your child’s learning journey in the weeks to come.
Warm regards,
