Term 2 Sport Update

It's been another action-packed term for sport at Blackburn High School!

This term, our winter interschool sports program has been in full swing, and once again our students have done us proud. We’ve had strong representation across all year levels in AFL, Netball, Badminton, Soccer, Basketball, and Table Tennis, with over 40 teams competing at Whitehorse Division level.

Congratulations to the following teams who won their competition and progressed to EMR this term:

  • Boys AFL: Senior, Intermediate, Year 8 & Year 7
  • Boys Netball: Intermediate & Year 7

A special shout-out to our Year 7, Year 8, and Intermediate Girls Netball teams, who all finished as runners-up in their competitions.

It’s clear that Blackburn High School is building a reputation for dominance on the AFL field and the netball court.

Our students continue to raise the bar and prove that when it comes to school sport, Blackburn is in a league of its own.

Good luck to the teams still to compete in upcoming events:

  • Junior, Intermediate & Senior Girls AFL
  • Year 7 & 8 Soccer
  • Year 7 & 8 Badminton

It’s fantastic to see so many of our students participating, giving their best, and displaying outstanding sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the term.

A huge thank you to all the dedicated teachers and student coaches who have supported our teams — your time, energy, and leadership have been instrumental in making this success possible.

We look forward to continuing the momentum into Term 3!

Year 9/10 Intermediate Boys AFL Whitehorse District

On Wednesday14th May, BHS Intermediate boys took to the field at Koonung Reserve in the Whitehorse District AFL Championship. BHS managed to field an A and a B team, which is a testament to the popularity of AFL amongst the 45 students. All BHS players should be congratulated on their efforts, behaviour, and the way they represented the school.

The A Team managed to convincingly win all 3 games to progress through to the EMR in July, where greater challenges lie ahead. Over 100 minutes of game time was equally shared amongst the team, and all players played in a variety of positions. The total accumulated points score of 314 points for and 33 points against shows the massive gap between BHS and the opposition.  Across the day everyone contributed to the big wins, displaying a great example of team football and spirited game play.

Year 7 Boys AFL Whitehorse District

On Monday 2nd June, BHS Year 7 Boys took to the field at Koonung Reserve in the Whitehorse District AFL Championship. In fine, sunny and perfect football conditions, BHS completely outplayed KSC and Box Hill HS. A total accumulated score of 170 points to 7 points reflects the true discrepancy between the teams.

All 26 BHS players made valuable contributions throughout the day, whether that be in the back line, midfield, or forward line.  The midfield engine room of Jesse, Ed C, Jed, and Eddie H was outstanding, covering kilometres and accumulating possession after possession. Charlie, Max, and Dominic provided dangerous marking targets up forward, and Xavier, Mitch, and Isaac kicked multiple goals. Zac Z, Euan, Jack M, and Jack C were relentless with their defensive pressure, strength, and tackling in the back half. Liam, Jordan and Oliver also gave plenty of run all over the ground. Every 10 minutes in each half, the interchange gate was a hive of activity with 8 players coming on and off to ensure equitable game time for all. Positively, all players played 70-80 minutes of game time out of a total of 100 minutes.

Thank you to Year 10 Sport Coaching students Fletcher and Brody who helped with coaching on the day. BHS looks forward to greater challenges ahead in the EMR on Thursday, 26th June.

  • Round 1: BHS 11 goals, 5 behinds, 71 points defeated Koonung 1 goal, 0 behinds, 6 points

  • Round 2: BHS 16 goals, 3 behinds, 99 points defeated Box Hill HS 0 goals, 1 behind, 1 point
