Hearts and Hands Mass – A Celebration of Compassion in Action

This week, our school community gathered for our annual Hearts and Hands Mass — a time of prayerful reflection, simple liturgy, and generous action. While the celebration may have been without the usual “bells and whistles,” it was deeply meaningful, grounded in the true spirit of giving and solidarity with those in need.

The focus of the Mass was not only on coming together in faith but also on putting that faith into action by supporting the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. In the lead-up to the Mass, students, staff, and families generously donated non-perishable food items, toiletries, warm clothing, and other essentials. The response was overwhelming, with a remarkable volume of donations collected — a true testament to the compassion and generosity of our community.

We were privileged to welcome Chris Mahon, President of the local St Vincent de Paul conference, who joined us for the Mass and received the donations on behalf of Vinnies. Chris expressed sincere gratitude for the support and shared how these donations will go directly to local individuals and families who are experiencing hardship, particularly during the cold winter months.

The Hearts and Hands Mass reminded us that faith, when combined with action, can bring real hope and comfort to others. Thank you to everyone who contributed — your generosity has made a real and lasting impact.

Together, we are living out the Gospel message to love our neighbours and care for those most in need. 💙

Act for Peace Ration Challenge

In a world filled with injustices, the Schools Ration Challenge empowers students to take practical action and become advocates for change.

During this immersive learning experience, held during Refugee Week, students get sponsored to eat the same rations as a refugee in Jordan for three days.

This experience builds empathy for others – a quality that is key to viewing things from multiple perspectives and driving positive change.

Our school will be involved again this year in this challenge.

Prayer for Refugee Week

Loving God,

You are a shelter for all who seek safety,

a comfort to those who are displaced, and

a guiding light for those who journey in search of peace.

As we mark Refugee Week, we remember the millions of people around the world

who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, and fear.

Open our hearts to their stories, deepen our compassion, and inspire us to be people of welcome and hospitality.

May we stand together in solidarity,

recognising the dignity and resilience of all who seek refuge.

Help us to build a world where all are treated with justice,

and where hope is stronger than fear.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Jesus light of the world, guide us

St Joseph, journey with us

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, pray for us
