YEAR 12 PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT: PLAY IT FORWARD

MS LAURA CROW

In Unit 3 PDS, students work in randomly selected groups to create a play product or piece of equipment using recycled materials such as wooden pallets or electrical wire reels, all within a $50 budget. The project requires collaboration with a local childcare centre and challenges students to apply their skills in leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal communication—key focus areas of the unit.

As part of their ‘Play it Forward’ project, Lilly-Anne, Mawa, and Billy designed and constructed a mud kitchen using two repurposed wooden pallets. Demonstrating remarkable initiative, creativity, and teamwork, the group donated their handcrafted play equipment to Young Adventurers on Chapman Street—bringing a fun and engaging new element to the centre’s outdoor area.

Another brilliant contribution came from Kaitlyn, Benny, and Chey, whose vibrant and imaginative project has added colour and joy to the outdoor play space at Kunawaa Kindergarten.
