Senior State Soccer Championships
Last Tuesday 2nd September saw our Senior Soccer Team compete against 3 other teams at the Darebin International Sports Centre. The challenge was enormous, but one thing our College does well is step up and give it 100%. We had several injuries early that saw us reduced to 10 fit players on the field by days end, testing the team’s fitness levels. Having lost the first 2 games to Doncaster and Brighton Secondary Colleges, we were thrilled to win the final game against Strathmore SC.
A special mention to Sally who played an absolute cracker of a tournament which resulted in her scoring one of our 3 goals for the day. Out of 16 Boys/Mixed teams that played in the tournament, she was the only female representing a team. Congratulations on never backing down and holding your own in challenging circumstances.
We would like to congratulate Sally, Wilton, Cooper, Mason, Hunter, Kyal, Lewis, Harry, Kane, Connor, Heath, Justin, TJ, Alex and Zak on being awarded the Spirit of Sport Award. From the time they arrived at the event, their behaviours were exemplary and showed such care for each other’s wellbeing when injuries arose. Well done team!
East Gippsland Year 7-10 Basketball
SSV Interschool 7-10 Basketball was held in the BARC last Wednesday 3rd September against Orbost, Lakes Entrance, Mallacoota and Nagle. We entered 6 teams into the competition covering the Year 7 boys and girls, Year 8 boys and girls and Intermediate boys and girls.
All teams showed determination and fought hard throughout the competition with skill and amazing team spirit. Wins were hard to come by against some experienced teams but with a few wins on the board the players should be super proud of their achievements. Intermediate girls and Year 8 boys secured 2nd place in their respective age groups.
The skills witnessed on the day are a credit to the players and a glimpse of what’s to come. The day was a success with everyone organised and helping where they could with scoring, coaching, paperwork and more. It was a great day all round with all students that attended from all schools very well behaved leaving the BARC spick and span when they left.
East Gippsland Year 7-10 Table Tennis
The Year 8 Boys and Girls Table Tennis Teams advanced through to the region finals without losing any games. The hard work starts now for the 2 teams, with tough competition awaiting them when they play in Traralgon on Tuesday 28th October.
Gippsland Track and Field
The squad of 28 had a great day of competition at Newborough in cool and windy conditions. Having success in a wide range of events, our students gave it their best all day, all while supporting one another throughout the day. Congratulations to those who won medals and set themselves new personal best’s. Keep setting goals and striving for the best result you can achieve. We would like to thank students Izzy, Lillyarna, Melissa and Chloe for assisting Bodey with running the Triple Jump event. It ran smoothly and is greatly appreciated.
