Principal's Message

Hello everyone,

Welcome to our final newsletter for Term 3! It’s been a fantastic term filled with wonderful academic, sporting, and arts activities, offering our students every opportunity to be their very best.

Visiting Vermont Secondary College: A Valuable Learning Experience

Last week, I had the opportunity to visit Vermont Secondary College in Melbourne. Visiting other schools provides a wonderful chance to gain insight into how they work with staff and students in classrooms, their leadership teams and operations, and their teaching and learning programs.

It was a great day, and I returned with several new ideas after enriching conversations with their principal and leadership team. These insights will be valuable as we continue to grow and improve our own college community.

Year 9 Broadening Experience Excursion to Melbourne

Over the past two weeks, our Year 9 students, in two separate groups, travelled to Melbourne for the Broadening Experience Excursion. Students had the option to visit exciting destinations such as the MCG, the Aquarium, MetArt and the Zoo.

In the afternoon, students took on the challenge of City Selfie Bingo—a fun and interactive activity that encouraged them to navigate the city and step outside their comfort zones. Our students embraced the challenge wholeheartedly, making it an amazing and memorable day.

A big thank you to all the staff who made this enriching experience possible. So many great memories were created!

Celebrating 35 Years of Dedicated Service

At a recent function held by the Department of Education at the RSL in Bairnsdale on Tuesday 19th August, we proudly recognised 2 of our College staff members for their remarkable 35 years of service in education.

Congratulations to:

  • Sean Bolton
  • Kim Green

Joining many participants from across the Outer Gippsland Area, senior Department staff acknowledged Sean and Kim’s significant contributions and unwavering commitment to educating and supporting students over the decades.

We sincerely thank them for their dedication and the positive impact they have made within our College community and beyond.

R U OK? Day: A Heart-warming Celebration of Connection and Support

Our college community truly came together in a meaningful way to participate in R U OK? Day activities this year. The genuine sense of connection and support was truly uplifting to witness.

From the delicious sausage sizzle to the exciting staff versus students basketball match, the day was filled with uplifting moments. It was especially touching to see our students thoughtfully move between classes, checking in on their peers and collecting gold coin donations to support the cause.

A huge congratulations to our SRC students, who—alongside Lilly and the Wellbeing Team—did an outstanding job organising the day. They set an ambitious fundraising goal of $1,000 and not only met but exceeded it, raising a fantastic total of $1,093.00!

This incredible achievement reflects the strength and spirit of our community. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making R U OK? Day such a memorable and impactful occasion.
