Yesterday our school came together to celebrate R U OK? Day. It was a day filled with connection, fun and community spirit. Students enjoyed watching the student vs staff basketball game, joined in friendly competitions with prizes to be won, and had a sausage sizzle for lunch making sure no one was left hungry. The day was a wonderful reminder of the importance of checking in with each other and starting meaningful conversations about wellbeing.
Two of our Year 8 students were lucky enough to win the prizes on offer.
It’s CAT week in English! Students are busy demonstrating their understanding of the novel studied this term. For 8B, that means diving deep into Hatchet. Students are responding thoughtfully to the text, showing not only their comprehension but also their ability to connect ideas to real-life challenges. We are proud of the effort and creativity being shown across all classes during this important assessment week.
Year 8 students extended their learning in Science and Humanities with an excursion to Lakes Entrance and Buchan. Highlights included a visit to the Coast Guard to learn about the Gippsland Lakes, 90 Mile Beach, and rescue operations, followed by a guided tour of the Buchan Caves with Parks Victoria. This experience gave our students a deeper understanding of landscapes and the impacts that shape them.
Our Year 8 students gathered for an assembly that celebrated the achievements of the year level so far. We highlighted the many successes of our students both inside and outside the classroom and acknowledged the effort and growth shown throughout the term.
The assembly also introduced the exciting School for Student Leadership opportunity at Dinner Plain, with details shared about how students can apply to represent our school. Finally, we revisited the expectations for Year 8, reminding everyone about the importance of respect, responsibility, and effort in all areas of school life. It was a positive and encouraging way to reflect on our progress and look forward to the term ahead.
College Uniform Expectations
We’re pleased to see that most of our students continue to wear the correct school uniform with pride. We kindly ask all families to ensure that students are in full school uniform each day. We are currently doing large orders of uniform. If you need any support in sourcing uniform items, please don’t hesitate to contact Amy in the Year 8 Hub—she’s always happy to help.
Students who arrive at school out of uniform will be provided with the appropriate items and expected to wear them during the school day.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
For your reference, the uniform policy and price list are included below as well as examples of correct uniform.
Phones at School: What You Need to Know
In accordance with the Department of Education Mobile Phones Policy, students must not use their mobile phones at Bairnsdale Secondary College during school hours, including Break 1 and 2, unless an exemption has been granted by the Principal.
Students may need to bring a personal mobile phone to school, for example if travelling independently to and from school. If students bring a mobile phone to school they must be switched off and stored securely in their locker all day, including Break 1 and 2. Mobile phones are considered valuable items and are brought to the school at the owner’s risk.
For further information the BSC Mobile Phones Policy is located on the College website.
