Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families, 

It was wonderful to gather together for our Parish Mass on Wednesday. Thank you to all the families who were able to join us. Our students proclaimed the Scripture of Mary Magdalene discovering the empty tomb and joyfully sharing the message, "He is risen! Alleluia!" They read beautifully, participated reverently throughout the celebration, and when the technology didn't cooperate, they confidently sang a cappella, demonstrating resilience and enthusiasm.

This week, students also participated in the Kids ROAR program, where they explored the important topics of consent, body safety and help-seeking. Through age-appropriate discussions and activities, students learned strategies to recognise safe and unsafe situations, respect personal boundaries, and identify trusted adults who can support them. We encourage families to continue these valuable conversations at home.

Learning for Year 4 in Term 3:

Religious Education:

Next week in English, students will continue reading Storm Boy while building their reading comprehension, fluency and vocabulary. They will respond to questions about the novel, read with increasing accuracy, pace and expression, and deepen their understanding of new vocabulary. Students will also continue consolidating their information report writing by planning and writing well structured body paragraphs. 

English:

Next week in Mathematics, students will learn to divide by one-digit numbers using arrays. They will use visual models to develop their understanding of division, represent and solve problems, and explain the strategies they use to check the reasonableness of their answers.

Mathematics:

Next week, students will continue developing their multiplication skills by learning to choose the most efficient multiplication strategy to solve a range of problems. They will apply different strategies, explain their thinking, and select the method that best suits each problem to build confidence, accuracy and mathematical reasoning.

Integrated Curriculum:

Next week in Integrated Studies, we will learn to create believable characters using expressive skills. Students will make thoughtful choices about how their character thinks, feels and behaves, stay in role during drama activities, and explain the decisions they made to bring their character to life. 

Auslan:

Next week in Auslan, students will explore how languages have different sentence structures and grammatical rules. They will learn that in Auslan, time signs such as yesterday or two days ago are placed at the beginning of a sentence to establish the context before the rest of the message is signed. Students will also discover that, unlike English, Auslan does not use past tense endings such as -ed (for example, played). By the end of the week, students will be able to describe two key differences between sentence structure in English and Auslan. 

Social & Emotional Learning:

Next week, students will explore the many parts that make up their identity and recognise that identity can grow and change over time. They will discuss how family, culture, friends and the media can influence who we are, while learning to appreciate and respect the individuality of others through thoughtful discussions and real-life scenarios.

  We kindly ask that students do not bring fidget toys to school unless their use is a planned adjustment in consultation with Allied Health Professionals. Students who bring fidget toys without an approved adjustment will be asked to place them in their school bag for the remainder of the day to take home. We appreciate your support in encouraging your child to leave fidget toys at home.
