Disability Inclusion in Victorian Schools: Supporting Every Student

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I’m thrilled to introduce myself as the Acting Disability Inclusion Learning Specialist at our school for the remainder of the year. I’m passionate about fostering an inclusive environment where every student can thrive, and I’m excited to take on this role to support our school community. I am best contacted on Thursdays and Fridays, when I step out of my regular classroom duties to focus on this work.

What is Disability Inclusion in Victorian Schools?

Disability Inclusion is a Victorian Government initiative designed to ensure that all students, regardless of their abilities, have equitable access to education and opportunities to succeed. In our classrooms, this means making tailored adjustments and providing targeted support to meet each student’s unique needs, enabling them to participate fully in their learning.

How Classroom Teachers Support Students

Our amazing CSPS teachers play a vital role in disability inclusion by implementing adjustments and supports, such as:

  • Differentiated Instruction: Tailoring lessons to accommodate diverse learning styles, for example, providing visual aids, simplified instructions, or hands-on activities.
  • Individualised Supports: Using tools like communication aids, sensory breaks, or modified assessments to help students engage with the curriculum.
  • Collaborative Planning: Working with families and specialists to develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that outline specific goals and strategies for each student.

These adjustments ensure that every child feels included and supported to achieve their best.

My Role as Disability Inclusion Learning Specialist

As the Acting Disability Inclusion Learning Specialist, I act as a bridge between our Inclusion Leader, Nichola Allen, and our classroom teachers. My role is to support teachers in delivering high-quality, inclusive practices that meet the needs of all students. Here’s how I contribute:

  • Professional Development: I provide resources, training, and coaching to help teachers implement inclusive strategies effectively.
  • Collaboration: I work closely with Nichola Allen to align our school’s practices with the Disability Inclusion framework, ensuring consistency and quality.
  • Support for Teachers: I assist teachers in planning adjustments and accessing resources to create supportive learning environments.
  • Advocacy: I advocate for inclusive practices across the school, ensuring every student’s needs are met with care and respect.

Get in Touch

I’m here to support our school community and welcome any questions or discussions about disability inclusion. Please feel free to contact me on Thursdays or Fridays via email or phone.

Warm regards,
