School and Community Library Program
It's hard to believe that we're already at the end of our first library term! What a ride! Here's what we've been up to:
Every Friday morning this term we met at the back of Alfa Yarraville for stories, songs and chinos. It's been SO enjoyable making this a little Friday morning ritual and sharing stories with our school community and the broader local community. The walking school bus has also been a huge success! Thank you to everyone who's come along and to James and the team at Alfa Bakehouse for keeping us caffeinated.
Term 2 Storytime will be held in the school library.

On Friday the 20th of March we celebrated World Storytelling Day with an open mic storytelling session. The prompt was "Light in the Darkness" and students were given 30 seconds to tell us their stories. SO many students picked up a mic and gave it a go and it was extremely hard to choose our winners. Congratulations to Thomas H, Jimmy S and Thomas B who were awarded a $10 book voucher for their efforts.

We had our first ever library volunteer training day this month! Thank you to those who attended and who have since spent some time as library helpers. We would love for the library to be open more over lunch / recess and there are always blankets to wash and books to put away. If you would like us to add you to our next training day, please reach out at: library@sayarraville.catholic.edu.au. There's no regular commitment and you can do as little or as much as you like 🙏
Outreach visits to kindergartens and early learning centres are in full swing. This term, some junior and senior students accompanied Kat and Miss Paglianiti to read their favourite stories to local 2-4 year olds. Miss P even got the children speaking Italian! Visits will continue in term 2.

Thank you to everyone who donated books to our second hand book sale. Despite the miserable weather, we were still able to raise $405 for the library and $45 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF). How wonderful! If you didn't make it but would still like to help the ILF, you can contribute on our school page here: https://fundraising.ilf.org.au/staugustines

Last Friday we had our very first Parent / Child Book Club. Over 25 of us met in the library to play book-ish games, share what we were reading and eat hot chips! We collaborated with people that we'd never worked with before to create film posters of our books and even gave them star ratings! The children just happened to beat the parents / grown ups at a game of Book Bingo and all walked away with their very own book to read. A big thank you to our sponsors Under the Sea Fish and Chips and Robert at Seddon Book Alley.
Next Book Club will be on Friday the 19th of June from 3.30 - 5pm. Don't forget to email library@sayarraville.catholic.edu.au to book in!

You may have seen the banners along our school fence - St Augustine's Playgroup begins in term 2! Anyone aged 0-5 is welcome to come and have a play. The playgroup is free and a different class will run playgroup each week. To come along, book yourself in here or email library@sayarraville.catholic.edu.au.
