Water Polo 

The Mount Carmel Water Polo teams are heading into their final play off rounds this Friday night.  Congratulations to all players for their commitment and efforts throughout the season.  

The Year 5/6 team started the season strongly in the Green Division, but have suffered some narrow losses on the home run of the season, putting them in the 8 v 8 Final versus Friends’ from the White Division.  

Saving their best for last, the Year 7/8 team earned a draw versus Friends Red in the penultimate round and a gutsy win against St Mary’s 7s in the final match of the season to ensure a place in the final round this week. 

Mount Carmel Year 9/10s participated in a combined team with Mackillop and Sacred Heart this roster, gelling together nicely.  Finishing mid table, they will play off for 5th place versus Fahan. 

Special mention to leading goalscorers in each team - Olive Alden, Year 6, 35 goals;  Nellie Sing, Year 8, 16 goals; Lina Mahmoud, Year 9, 29 goals.   

Thanks to Coaches and Managers for giving up their time to support these teams including Matt Costelloe, Vanessa Fenton, Lauren Vanier, Craig Stockdale, alumni Amelia Sing and Year 9 students, Evie Muir and Lina Mahmoud.  

Primary Hockey 

The Primary hockey rosters finished up on Saturday. The students have done a fabulous job committing to the roster on a Saturday morning.  Well done particularly to the early years students who were trying hockey for the first time, and to the Year 2s that stepped up and filled in for the Year 3/4 team throughout the season.  Unfortunately it rained nearly every Tuesday this term, so training for the teams was very limited.  

Thanks to all the families for their support with these teams, and particularly Kathryn Jakimowicz, Matthew Collingwood, Ash and Josh Nally and Ingrid Stannard for Coaching and Managing teams, and Year 9 student Evie Gmelig for rounding up friends to take training. 

The Year 3 - 6 students have another opportunity to play school hockey in Term 3 with afternoon rosters at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre on turf.  

Secondary Netball

Well done to all the secondary netball teams, who concluded their rosters last week.  

It was wonderful to see more than 50 secondary students representing Mount Carmel in SSATIS netball. This included students trying netball for the first time, and seasoned club players.  The common denominator being enjoyment, social connection, team work and sportsmanship.  Special thanks to our coaches and team managers Kirsty Presser, Alana Giffard, Sarah Hastings, Joanne Banks-Smith, Sarah Paton-Clarke. Pina Angelone and Bec O’Halloran. These teams are only possible with the support of parents/carers and family members.

Term 3 Sport

Teams are now being finalised for Term 3 sport, and roster information will be emailed to participants and parents/carers over the coming weeks. There are still some teams that require or can accommodate extra players, so please sign up now if you don’t want to miss out.
