A Word from the Principal

Megan Richardson

Loving and faithful God,

Today we gather with grateful hearts as we celebrate Mount Carmel Day.

We thank You for the vision, courage and generosity of the Sisters of Charity, whose commitment to education, service and love laid the foundations of our College. Through their compassion, they showed that every person is worthy of dignity, respect and hope.

Help us to continue their mission in our own time. May we be people who choose kindness over judgement, compassion over indifference and service over self interest.

Give us the courage to stand alongside those who need our support, the wisdom to seek justice, and the humility to recognise Christ in every person we meet.

Bless our students, staff, families and alumni. May our College always be a place where faith is lived, learning is celebrated and everyone knows they belong.

As we honour our past, inspire us to shape the future with hope, generosity and love.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel - Pray for us.

Amen.

Celebrating Mount Carmel Day

This Friday, our College community will come together to celebrate one of the most significant days in our calendar, Mount Carmel Day. It is a time to give thanks for our rich heritage, celebrate who we are today, and renew our commitment to the values that continue to shape our College.

The story of Mount Carmel is deeply connected to the vision and courage of the Sisters of Charity. Arriving in Tasmania with a profound commitment to education, compassion and justice, the Sisters dedicated their lives to serving others, particularly those who were vulnerable or in need. They believed that every person deserved dignity, opportunity and hope, and they lived this belief each day through their actions.

Their legacy is woven into the fabric of our College. While our classrooms, technologies and learning experiences have changed over the years, the heart of Mount Carmel remains the same. We continue to strive to be a community where every student is known, valued and encouraged to become the very best version of themselves.

The charism of the Sisters of Charity reminds us that education is about far more than academic achievement. It is about forming young people who lead with kindness, act with courage, serve with compassion and seek justice in the world around them. These qualities are as important today as they were when the Sisters first began their ministry in Tasmania.

As we gather to celebrate Mount Carmel Day, we recognise the countless women and men who have contributed to the life of our College over many generations. We honour the vision of those who came before us, give thanks for the dedication of our staff and families today, and celebrate our students, whose enthusiasm, talents and generosity continue to bring our community to life.

Mount Carmel Day is more than a celebration of our history, it is a reminder of our shared responsibility to carry our mission into the future. Each act of kindness, each opportunity to serve, each moment of courage and every gesture of compassion strengthens our College community and reflects the values upon which it was founded.

May this Mount Carmel Day inspire each of us to continue building a community where faith is lived through service, learning is pursued with purpose, and every person knows they belong.

Happy Mount Carmel Day to our entire College community!

A Reminder About Uniform and Personal Presentation

As Term 2 comes to a close, we ask families to take a few moments to ensure uniforms and personal presentation meet the College's expectations.

The term break is the perfect opportunity to check that uniforms are clean, in good repair and fit correctly. In particular, please ensure winter skirts are worn at knee length and any repairs or replacements are organised before the first day of Term 3.

Students are reminded that:

  • Hairstyles should be neat and natural. Extreme hairstyles, including undercuts or shaved styles, obvious hair colouring, or hairstyles featuring starkly contrasting colours (such as very light blonde with dark brown, dyed black hair or heavily bleached blonde hair), are not permitted.

  • A maximum of two piercings per ear may be worn, with only small plain silver or gold sleepers or studs (including small pearls or diamante). Dangly or drop earrings are not permitted.

  • Only a small, clear nose retainer may be worn at by Secondary students.

  • Tongue piercings and eyebrow slits are not permitted.

  • Students must not wear coloured nail polish, acrylic or artificial nails (including French nails), excessive eyelash extensions, makeup or fake tanning products with their school uniform.

We appreciate the support of families in helping students return for a new term to school ready to learn and representing Mount Carmel through a high standard of personal presentation.
