Great Victorian Bike Ride

From November 30th to December 3rd ten brave students from Edenhope College along with five parents undertook the Great Victorian Bike Ride. Before we left there was a forecast for flash flooding in the Gippsland area we were travelling to, but it was deemed safe by the police and organisers, so we were going ahead! Arriving in the wet and mud of 400mm of rain the previous day did not excite our riders for what lay ahead. Despite the weather and the 104km ride that day, they jumped on their bikes and tackled the day. Without a single complaint they rode this day and the following day, again in rain, to complete a 183km for the two days. Our students embraced the sprit of the ride and made friends with students from other schools, talked with other riders from all over the country from all generations. They explored the towns of Sale, Yarram and Fish Creek that we passed through and supported their communities. On the Saturday night we partied as a school with the live band and other riders

to celebrate the last night. Our students were by far the longest committed on the dancefloor! The final day of 64kms seemed more appealing as the sun came out to greet us. We swapped our raincoats for sunscreen and enjoyed a beautiful ride along the coast to the finish line in Wonthaggi. The pride our staff had in these students as we rode to the end was immense.

Our young riders built determination and resilience to get through the challenging conditions and demonstrated a commitment to finish what they had started six months prior in their training. We are so proud of our Edenhope College team and cannot wait to ride again in 2024!
