Clean Monday

ELC students celebrated Clean Monday by decorating and flying kites. They were also offered some special bread called “lagana”. A traditional bread eaten on the first day of fasting. 

Symbol of the Kite: The kite symbolises the human soul flying up to into the sky, free and pure. Believers are also preparing for the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the Orthodox easter. 

Bread: The bread is a special flat, oval shaped bread without yeast, prepared only for this day. 

Students were very excited to decorate and cut out their special kites. It was wonderful to see the variety of colours and patterns the children had used and their amazing scissor skills.
