Attending a youth leadership conference can have numerous positive impacts. One of the potential outcomes is personal growth and development. Students who attend a leadership conference acquire new skills, knowledge, and perspectives that will help them grow as an individual.

Year 8, 10, and 11 SRC members were involved in the Secondary Youth Leadership Conference which took place on Wednesday 13 March at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. The conference was designed to inspire, strengthen, and empower future leaders. The students participated in a daylong program where they engaged with keynote speakers, contributed to discussions, and applied their learning through interactive activities and reflection.

This year, Oakleigh Grammar School organized a Hellenic Culture event to support International Women’s Day! On Thursday 7 March, Year 10 and Year 11 SRC members organized a sausage sizzle to celebrate “Tsiknopempti,” which means “Smoky Thursday.” “Tsiknopempti” occurs on the second last Thursday before Lent and is part of the Triodion period and the traditional celebrations of Apókries. It centers on the consumption of large amounts of grilled and roasted meats before Lenten fast commences. Students raised $1,395 to support a charity event organized by the Hellenic Philanthropic group “Team Agapes.” All money raised will be donated to the Impact’s “Bags of Love” initiative, which provides essential items to women and children escaping domestic violence. Congratulations to Year 10 and 11 SRC and their helpers for organizing such a fun fundraiser! A huge THANK YOU to our sponsors Paragon Meats for donating the sausages and to Oakleigh Bakers Delight for donating the bread
