Learning & Teaching (Specialists)

Physical Education
Foundation – Punting
Having spent the first part of this term on gymnastics, Foundation students are now learning to punt, developing the coordination needed to drop and kick a ball out of their hands. Through game-based activities, they will practise balance, timing, and kicking technique. This skill supports development in a range of sports students will encounter later in the school.
Years 1/2 – Gymnastics
Years 1/2 students have spent the first part of this unit developing balances and rolls, and are now working on creating their own gymnastics sequences. In the remaining weeks they will link balances, rolls, and travelling movements together, before performing their routines at a gymnastics showcase for their peers.
Years 3/4 – Minor Games (AFL)
Having spent the first part of this term on striking and fielding skills and tactics, Years 3/4 are now moving into an AFL-focused minor games unit. Students will develop kicking, handballing, and marking skills through modified games, along with positioning and decision-making specific to invasion games. The unit concludes with students applying these skills in game-based challenges.
Years 5/6 – Ultimate Frisbee & Softcrosse (Sport Education)
Years 5/6 are doing a series of lessons that cover Ultimate Frisbee and Softcrosse, a modified version of lacrosse, developing throwing, catching, and stick-handling skills across both sports. For Year 6 students, this unit also serves as preparation for the Lightning Premiership in Term 4.
