LOTE: Japanese
Foundation
During Japanese lessons this term, students will be learning vocabulary related to the parts of the body. Over the next 3 weeks, students will:
- learn the Japanese version of “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” and perform the actions.
- listen to Japanese words and point to the correct body parts
- match Japanese words with pictures of body parts to build word recognition.
Year 1
This term, Grade 1 students will explore the topic “This is a House”. Over the next 3 weeks, students will:
- join in choral reading a simple Japanese story about parts of a house
- be introduced to a ‘This is a House’ song and join in singing this song
- learn to name features of a house in Japanese.
Year 2
During Japanese lessons this term, students will learn to talk about the body and how to say something hurts in Japanese. Over the next 3 weeks, students will:
- learn to identify, say, and read the names of a selection of body parts in Japanese
- use simple sentences to express what body part hurts
- be introduced to a ‘Visiting the Doctor’ song and join in singing this song
Year 3
During Japanese lessons this term, students will explore the theme of birthdays.
Over the next 3 weeks, students will:
- name the months of the year in Japanese and use them to talk about birthdays
- ask and answer the question “When is your birthday?” and respond with the correct month.
- join in singing a Japanese birthday song
Year 4
During Japanese lessons this term, students will be engaging in a fun and imaginative unit based on Sumo wrestling to learn and practise self-introduction skills in Japanese. Over the next 3 weeks, students will learn to introduce themselves in Japanese by stating their:name, age and nationality.
Year 5
During Japanese lessons this term, students will develop their Japanese language skills through a unit on weather. Over the next 3 weeks, students will:
- read six common weather adjectives in Japanese
- ask and answer questions about weather conditions in a selection of Japanese cities
Year 6
During Japanese lessons this term, students will develop their Japanese language skills through a unit centred around shopping at a Hamburger Shop. Over the next three weeks, students will learn to use polite phrases to ask and answer questions about food and drink items. In addition to this, students will continue to further develop their Hiragana reading and writing skills.
