Careers & Pathways

Term 3 has been another busy and exciting period in the Careers and Pathways space, with students continuing to explore opportunities, make important decisions about their futures, and take significant steps towards their chosen pathways.

A highlight of the term has been the continued success of our Year 10 Work Experience program. Many students have embraced the opportunity to gain valuable insight into the workplace, develop employability skills, and test their interests in a range of industries. It is particularly pleasing to see a number of students impress their employers to such an extent that their work experience placements have led to ongoing employment opportunities and School Based Apprenticeships as they move into Year 11. We congratulate these students on their achievements. Such outcomes are a credit to their commitment, work ethic and professionalism, as well as the support provided by their families and our school community.

We have also recently completed Vocational Major interviews with our Year 10 students who are following this pathway for Year 11. The transition into a VM program is a significant commitment. Students are preparing for the challenge of three full days of learning at school, undertaking a TAFE or VET program (often off site) on the fourth day, or combining their studies with a School Based Apprenticeship and employment, they are taking important steps towards their future careers. We have been incredibly impressed by the enthusiasm, maturity and ambition demonstrated by students throughout this process and are excited to see these pathways come to life in 2027.

Course counselling has also been completed for upper and senior students across the college, providing an opportunity for thoughtful discussions about future learning and career directions. Students have carefully considered their interests, strengths and aspirations as they selected subjects and pathways for next year. We thank students, families and staff for the time and effort invested in these important conversations. 

Looking ahead, our Year 8 students will complete their subject selections early in Term 4 as they begin planning for the next stage of their learning journey.

As we prepare for Term 4, we would also like to acknowledge and thank Kerri Aitken for her outstanding contribution to Careers and Pathways support across our college. Kerri will be on leave during Term 4, and we sincerely thank her for the care, expertise and commitment she consistently provides to students and families. While Kerri is away, a replacement Careers practitioner will commence in early Term 4 to ensure students continue to receive guidance and support with careers planning, pathway decisions and post-school opportunities.

A reminder to families of Year 9 and Year 10 students that White Card Training will take place in Week 1 of Term 4. Obtaining a White Card is an important qualification for many industries and can strengthen students' opportunities to secure work experience placements, part-time employment and future pathway options. We encourage students to make the most of this valuable opportunity.

Finally, families are reminded that Sonya Carson, our Head Start Coordinator, continues to provide support for students undertaking or considering School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships. Sonya works closely with students, families and employers to help young people successfully balance school, employment and training, while creating meaningful pathways into future careers.
